It's the tariffs, stupid [1]

It is official now. Trump has succeeded in tanking our entire economy. The economic news out today from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, you know the place that with no partisan leanings compiles our labor statistics, even though Trump said they were all Dems and fired the head of the bureau, well the news is abysmal. It was so darned bad that not even Fox financial reporters and anchors could spin it.
Okay, so here's the bad, the ugly, and the "even worse."
The bad: Job growth in August: 22,000. (And the expected job growth? Um, 75,000. Oops.)
Which means there are now fewer people with jobs than just a month ago. And job growth earlier this summer, with the new adjusted number from June? Um, -13,000. Yep. Minus 13,000.
The ugly: Unemployment? Up now to 4.3%, which makes it the highest since 2021 when we were in the depths of the pandemic.
The even worse: The job losses are across the work spectrum.
Mining: 13,000
Construction: 10,000 (and we have a horrific housing shortage)
Manufacturing: 31,000
Information: 15,000
Business: 51,000
Federal government: 34,000
Finance: 0 net gains
And doubling down on the "even worse:" The only area of job growth? Um, the health care industry. Which is not good--because we are facing awful cuts in health insurance so then what?
Finally, to the laugh-out-loud-because-otherwise-we'd-all-cry: Trump apparently knows this news is so truly awful that his solution? To send out crazed Truth Social crap about Epstein. And to say that this is a Dem hoax, it's our fault, we should have taken this issue on when the guy was alive, yadayadayada. His rants are meant as a red meat brouhaha to his base but if I were a betting woman, I'd bet that buck that not even they are buying this. Because?
Echoing James Carville: IT'S THE TARIFFS, STUPID. And even his base knows it. The most recent figure on this? It is so bad that 61% of Republicans think he's on the wrong track when it comes to the economy and tariffs.
Repeat after me: It's the tariffs, stupid. And nothing is coming to save his flabby ass from the reckoning. Nothing.
