The posting of the colors by the Honor Guard during the Golden Spike Centennial Celebration on May 19, 1969. Notice several members of the Order of the Arrow framing the photo.

These are actual photos of the locomotives used in the Golden Spike Centennial Celebration 50 years ago. Those who visit the site nowadays will notice that the current locomotives have different coloring which is believed to be the actual coloring of the locomotives used during the original joining of the railroads on May 10, 1869.

One of the requests our Scout group received was to discourage visitors during the actual ceremony itself from climbing aboard the locomotives during the Golden Spike Centennial Celebration May 19, 1969.

There is no political message here, just wanted to share some grand memories of a great occasion that took place 50 years ago.

Many of us who participated in that service event as members of the Order of the Arrow BSA plan to also attend the 150th Anniversary Celebration of the Driving of the Golden Spike at Promontory Point in Box Elder County, Utah on May 10th, 2019.

I am in that group picture somewhere, but not sure just where I am. I need to enlarge the photo and get out my magnifying glass!
