Mamdani is offering a fantastic object lesson of how to deal with the cowards among the NY state mis-leadership class. Gillebrand, Schumer, Jeffries, Hochul: these folks are in deep trouble; they just don’t know it yet. The tide is turning: on the question of Palestine, on the role of billionaire money and influence. And on the possibility of a shift towards a more progressive Democratic Party.
Trump and his authoritarian circus is ironically pushing the Overton window towards the Left, or perhaps-- to the Left and Right simultaneously. In any case, Mamdani has opened a space where Dems will have to be bolder, more imaginative, braver.
NYers are simply not having this shit anymore.
Mamdani, to his credit, will not take the bait: He was supposed to have folded by now. He was supposed to have lashed out at the do-nothings and risk averse cowards who see their own power as more meaningful than the lives of the people they purport to represent, so they can scream about socialism and anti-Semitism.
He is killing them with kindness and showing the bankruptcy of approach among the conservative cowards that call themselves Democrats.
Meanwhile, it is the “moderates” that look unhinged and out of touch. Tom Suozzi, a rep from Long Island, told CBS’s (The Point) that AOC, and other DSA members should leave the party. Really? You want AOC to leave? One of the most popular political figures in the country? Talk about radical, talk about unhinged.
