This is boneset a late blooming Iowa wildflower, native to the eastern half of continental America. It's a great pollinator and I've read that 42 butterflies love it.

As an herb it's used for cold and flu remedies although extensive scientific research is not been done on it. It seems to be immune boosting antibacterial and anti-inflammatory however. The internet says it was used in the 1918 flu epidemic showing positive effects ranging from symptom relief to prevention. And it looks like it was used by the indigenous North Americans for fevers and colds.

Interesting plant!
