Recently there was a mass shooting at a catholic school where the perpetrator identified as trans (while I will not go into a deep dive on the incel practice of "transmaxxing" as that isn't the point of this diary, I suggest folks look it up as it will add context to the shooter showing such wild inconsistencies in their ideology, such as it was) and since then there has been a ratcheting up of the outcry on the right that us trans folks are all violent and mentally ill dangers to society who should be banned from having guns, put on a registry, and forcibly detransitioned.
This, predictably, has brought out the hand wringing and flop sweat from cowards on the democratic side of the aisle who are still peeing their diapers over the "Kamala is for they/them" ad, who are advising, with all the moral fortitude of a milksop, that the left just throw trans people to the wolves, because after all, they're all weird and icky and only .5% of the population so it's no big deal if they quietly vanish.
Trans people like myself are long used to being the canary in the coal mine, our deaths and persecution being a signpost of what those killing us intend to do to everyone they see as the "other". We're so used to it we all have blacklung from being dropped down so many mine shafts. So, let me sing to you in my cage and remind you of how this goes.
In Germany the first targets of the nazi regime were trans people. The famous photo of books being burned? Those burning books were from the first institute to study trans people. And of course we all remember that when the camps were liberated, queer folks were left to finish out their sentences for the crime of being queer.
In one of the X-Men movies, the tragic villain Magneto has a great speech about how fascism kills:

"This cure is voluntary. Nobody's is talking about extermination."
Eric Lensherr:
"No one ever talks about it. They just do it. And you go on with your lives, ignoring the signs all around you. And then, one day, when the air is still and the night has fallen, they come for you"
The amping up of rhetoric around trans folks echoes the way German newspapers had a special section where they highlighted crimes committed by Jewish people. It's the same playbook, the same script, and far too many are playing their parts as though born to them.
If you won't stand up for us, there will be no one left to speak for you when they come for you.
