I have only a little faith in the Democratic leadership as it stands right now. Part of it is of course that they have to herd the membership and are thinking things are going towards Blue so don’t get in the way. So it certainly looks right now we are headed towards enough of a cave for another Republican win.
When this first occurred in the spring I had suggested an different not full resistance strategy to keep the pressure card alive for the Democrats of a series of limited time extensions. I renew that call and want to add a series of publicly stated asks. Basically we will give you a month extra negotiation time if you give us this, this, and this. But votes on those before we do so. Popular and politically sensitive things and maybe things that get ahead of what Trump would do. Increased USAID grain purchases, reinstatement of the De minimis exemption before Christmas season, they can pick a host of examples whatever allows skittish members something to hold onto back home and makes the Republicans uncomfortable. If Trump Tacos on one or more of them fine get the vote done and give them two weeks, if he caves on all of them fine get the votes and give them the month. This is a rinse and repeat kind of strategy especially effective before the holidays.
Certainly in the business community some demonstration of any congressional restraint on the mad king would be welcome and honestly that is true even into the MAGA world on some things. On our side even small victories would be welcome. The if they wont even give us this why would we give them anything is actually a good place to force the waivers into.
