The old seat in my wheelchair died if you remember. I got a new seat, installed it, it still wasn’t right, the screws didn’t match up with all the holes, and I wasn’t able to find one, again, that was specific to that model. It didn’t matter for long though, because Buddy pushed me over as I was going up the steps into the house again. I didn’t get hurt this time, other than a bruise on the back of my arm and my back, and a sore wrist for a couple of days (which is fine now). But the chair didn’t survive.
This is one of the back supports.
The seat back that was made for me is fine, just have to take it off this chair. But the chair is toast. Not only is it missing back support (and one push handle) if this broke off, what else on that frame is cracked and waiting to go.
We decided to get a new chair, I bought a cheaper one, I really like it and hope it holds up a while, but I’m also going to talk to my primary about ordering me one through Medicaid. That could be as quick as a couple of weeks, or take a few months, so, I have a chair in the meantime. It’s narrower than the old one by two inches, which means it goes through doorways easier. And it’s got a blue frame. It’s government name is a Drive Blue Streak model. I’ve named it Bluey, since it’s blue, and we have Heelers.
Meet Bluey. You can tell by the seat that it’s Pup approved LOL. Yes, that’s Rhenn and Mongo beneath.
I’ve been nursing a migraine for a few days, so there’s that as well. And my lungs have been tight and heavy because of walking around with the walker so much. They are finally starting to feel more ‘normal’ today. That was part of the decision to get a new chair. Bit is going to cover the water bill, because I spent that money on the chair. Honestly, I was expecting it to be a couple hundred more expensive and was afraid I would have to raid the household account and borrow from that. But the price was better than I thought.
I really want to keep the pockets though and the back that was made for me, so I’m going to have to think about that one. Maybe I can alter it to change it to pockets hanging on the back? There’s a pocket on the back of this seat, but it’s shallow and not as easy to find things in because it’s one big pocket across the back. It won’t hold a travel cup upright for example, and my phone gets lost in it. The pockets made for me are MUCH better.
On the bright side, I had wound care today, and that got smaller. So yay for that. We’re hoping it will close up over the winter so we don’t have to go through this cycle of two steps forward over the winter, one step back over the summer. This wound and my auto-immune system don’t like the heat much.
Mongo really likes watching these videos. When he hears the narrator’s voice he pays attention to the computer or my phone, and he gets excited and wags at the dogs on the screen.
Things may be getting tense in Chicago in the near future. Please check in with us here folks, if you don’t have another place to check in. We want to be sure everyone is as safe as possible.
