Trump considers fixing NYC mayoral race by bribing Adams and Sliwa with administration positions [1]

Trump and the NYC mayoral race

Rumor has it that Trump may offer Eric Adams a bribe to drop out of the New York mayoral race in exchange for an administration position. In addition, whispers have it that Trump may be offering the same incentive to Curtis Sliwa. It would be part of his strategy to hobble the charismatic young progressive Zohran Mamdani and grease the skids for a candidate with a big name, who shares his self-serving philosophy — the disgraced former Governor, Andrew Cuomo.

Adding credence to the story is Adams' steadfast refusal that he has been offered a position. The cynic would say that's merely a negotiating ploy to get a better offer. Adams is an ex-cop. Dan Bongino, the current Deputy Director of the FBI, is reportedly unhappy . And his boss, FBI Director Kash Patel, is not serene . So there's that. Sliwa is an attention whore, so he'll do anything.

The candidates

There are four candidates for New York City Mayor: Mamdani is the Democratic nominee . Sliwa , founder of the Guardian Angels, is the Republican nominee. Cuomo, who lost to Mamdani in the Democratic primary, is now running as an independent. And current Mayor Eric Adams, who didn't bother to run in the Democratic primary after he was criminally indicted on federal charges.

New York is a Democratic town. As such, Mamdani is, on average, the double-digit favorite in polls with all candidates. However, Trump is betting that if some of Mamdani's opponents dropped out of the race, Mamdani's election would not be so assured. The man who fled to Florida wants to see his fellow Queensite in Gracie Mansion.

Trump's choice

Why? Because Cuomo is a bird of Trump's feather — a thug and an accused sexual abuser. "Democrat" was a label of convenience for Cuomo. One he dropped as soon as it was no longer convenient. Unlike his father, Mario , an unabashed liberal, Andrew simply wants power. If he had been born in Alabama, he would have been a dyed-in-the-wool good old boy.

Which brings us to Trump's anti-Mamdani strategy. Zohran has the left-wing vote. If Sliwa were out, the right wing would have to look for a candidate. Cuomo is more attractive. His offenses are sexual - and that is no bar to high office in conservative circles. Adams, on the other hand, is too flash and 'uppity' for the conservative strongholds in Staten Island and Archie Bunker territory.

But why take a chance? Trump would love to see a two-man race. In his calculation, Mamdani wins the liberals. Cuomo wins the conservatives. And the centrists vote for the nostalgia of the COVID Cuomo — Andrew's finest hour, (if you ignore his nursing home scandal .)

A prediction

Trump can finger any pie he wants. But any evidence that he is interfering in the NYC race will be ammunition for Mamdani's campaign. On paper, Cuomo looks good to Trump. But New York City voted for Harris by 38% (69%-31%) in 2024. The antipathy to the City's erstwhile son is overwhelming. And Mamdani (who for most of the race wasn't even predicted to win) ended up beating Cuomo handily in the primary.

Cuomo backers will argue that if he retains the 44% of Democrats who voted for him in the primary — and secures a solid majority of non-Democratic voters — he will have a clear path to victory. However, that ignores the fact that those who voted for him in the primary thought they were voting for a Democrat, not a MAGA patsy.
