1689 Bill of Rights [1]

The 1689 Bill of Rights in Great Britain (en.wikipedia.org/....) allowed carrying of arms by Protestants for self defense and defense of the state, although the rights could be controlled by act of parliament. There was no such right for non-Protestants, especially Papists (Roman Catholics). The American Bill of Rights was based partly on this document. In general, non-Protestants only had the rights allowed by parliament.
However, when the American Constitution was written, it only limited the right of the federal government to restrict the carrying of arms and didn’t affect the ability of the states to regulate the carrying of arms. The states could also regulate religious bodies in their states, but that control was blocked from the federal government. The amendments passed after the Civil War extended the prohibition to regulate arms and religion to the states. So when the Supreme Court came up with originalism and literalism, it became very confused with regard to these issues. From which period of time was the court supposed to use the legal precedents?
You therefore have to wonder about anyone who says the issues are clear. However, there are many people today whom seem to feel that it is fine to harass and kill people who disagree with their view of the proper meaning of the law. By the way stating that you understand what the ninth amendment is talking about doesn’t mean that you can ignore it.
