When the First Instance of Fed Troops Shooting Civilians Occurs, Then What? [1]

Oh, no, that won’t happen, right? For those of us who remember the 1970 Kent State University massacre of unarmed students, we know that it is very plausible if Trump keeps ratcheting up the militarization of our cities. This is not law enforcement. This is the rolling out of a Police State. We just had a nationwide protest on Labor Day. It was fine, but it was modest in attendance. Estimates are that about 500,000 protesters showed up. That is 10% of the estimated turnout for the No Kings demonstrations. I have repeatedly called for a massive NO POLICE STATE national demonstration. I will continue to do so. What chillingly concerns me, however, is that unprecedented blowback against the Trumpian militarization of America may not occur until tragedy strikes and citizens are killed by federal troops untrained in law enforcement but openly carrying weapons of war and acting aggressively when challenged by those who do protest. No one expected the National Guard to shoot students at Kent State. There was no provocation. When shots were fired none of the Guardsmen were in jeopardy of harm. Troops trained in warfare but not in dealing with large protesting groups can be agitated and spooked into making spur-of-the-moment tragic decisions. I fear such an event will occur if we keep going down this treacherous road. Rise up America. Rise up!
