An 11-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries after being shot over a “ding dong ditch” prank in east Houston Saturday night.
When the 11-year-old and his friends were ringing the doorbell of a home as a prank, someone pulled a gun and opened fire as they left, hitting the child. The child was taken to hospital in critical condiction and died from gunshot wound-related injuries on Sunday.
An investigation is ongoing. Although the suspect has been detained Sunday night, there are no formal charges as of this writing.
Houston has been ground-zero for senseless gun violence in the United States. Whether it’s having frequent road rage shootings or people just shooting each other, even for fun… not to mention, Piers Morgan and Alex Jones held their gun debate post-Sandy Hook, with the Houston suburbs being a backdrop. Furthermore, likely fed up with California being the poster boy for gun crime and Texas being widely lauded as the model for “prosperity” and “good governance”, not to mention the Trump administration sending the national guard and other military power to stymie the authority of “blue cities” in “blue states”, California governor Gavin Newsom had to highlight the fact that Dallas and Houston have higher homicide rates than Los Angeles and San Francisco. Of course, insecurity over criticism against Texas is bipartisan.
