An overwhelming majority of members of the world’s leading genocide scholars’ association have backed a resolution stating that Israel’s actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of the crime. Eighty-six per cent of those who voted in the 500-member International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) supported the motion. The resolution states that “Israel’s policies and actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of genocide in article II of the United Nations convention for the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide (1948).”

Professor William Schabas, a prominent scholar was interviewed recently. He says the countries (including the US and Germany) are signatories to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. This treaty makes them responsible for preventing genocide. Yet they are actually enabling a genocide. Prof. Schabas' family survived the Nazi holocaust.
At the heart of his analysis is a stark conclusion: the case brought by South Africa v. Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is “arguably the strongest case of genocide that has ever come before the Court.” He argues that evidence of genocidal intent can be inferred not only from Israel’s military conduct but also from statements by senior Israeli officials, such as Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s remarks about cutting off food, water, and electricity in Gaza. “We have more than just a pattern of conduct—we also have statements and clear indications of policy. All of these must be considered together when making a final judgment,” said Professor Schabas. [...] Importantly, Professor Schabas stresses that third-party states—including the US, Germany, Canada, and others—risk being held legally accountable under Article III of the Genocide Convention for aiding and abetting Israel through military and political support. He warns: “To the extent that they are providing material assistance of a significant nature, they can be held responsible as accomplices to genocide.” -- www.populismstudies.org/...
Lots of people think "the ICJ are still investigating, so we don't know yet for sure if it is genocide and we don't have to stop Israel".
That is not correct. It is like any criminal case. You do not get excused of murder because a court did not find it was murder till years later after looking at the evidence. If you were supplying the murderer with bullets and reloading their gun for them, or using binoculars to spot more people to murder, or helping starve people so they could be murdered when they came looking for food. All these things would make you an accomplice, even if it took the court years to find the murderer guilty.
I think our politicians actually know this. That is why most won’t use the word genocide, because they know that means they have to sanction Israel. They would much rather pretend it is something else. It is also why our government has tried to bully the ICC and ICJ judges by imposing sanctions on judges. This is something Trump always tries to do, intimidate judges.
Mehdi Hassan points out that most American politicians have been supporting Israel's genocide:
I do not think most Americans understand how much the support for Israel has changed the world's views of America and so quickly. No foreign country will ever listen to lectures on human rights from American officials again. They will just be laughed at. This week, many Asian leaders met at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and issued a strong condemnation of US and Israel's actions in Gaza.
If you want to support the legal efforts to find perpetrators of this genocide responsible, you can donate to the Hind Rajab Foundation which is collecting evidence.
