Welcome to Morning Open Thread, a daily post with a MOTley crew of hosts, who choose the topic for the daily posting. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum.

Beginning September 2, Tuesday diary slots will be ‘blank slate’, all topics welcome.

Morning Open Thread is looking for contributors, either occasional or weekly. If you would like to publish a diary, contact officebss or Ozarkblue, we can reserve a Tuesday for you.

Note: I use a ‘theme’ for my diaries, in an attempt to keep my writings on a cohesive path while I compose the diaries. It is also fun to see comments that fit within that theme. However, here in MOTland, all topics are welcome, it is an open thread. There are no demerits for being so-called ‘off-topic’. Thanks!

>>>This diary is about the musical group The Four Tops

All words from this Wiki: Four Tops

The Four Tops were an American vocal group formed in Detroit, Michigan in1953. They were one of the most commercially successful American pop music groups of the 1960s and helped propel Motown records to international fame.

All four members of the group began their careers together while they were high-school students in Detroit. At the insistence of their friends, they successfully performed at a local birthday party. The quartet decided to remain together and named the group the Four Aims. The Aims signed to Chess records in1956, changing their name to The Four Tops .

In 1963, Berry Gordy Jr. convinced the Tops to join the roster of his growing Motown record company.

In 1964, Motown's main songwriting and production team created a complete instrumental track without any idea of what to do with it. They decided to craft the song as a more mainstream pop song for The Four Tops and proceeded to create “Baby I Need Your Loving” from the instrumental track. On its release in mid-1964, "Baby I Need Your Loving" made it to number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2010, Rolling Stone ranked them No. 79 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".
