The GOP’s ‘Diddy’ Problem [1]

It occurred to me that the recent conviction of Sean “Diddy” Combs for sex trafficking is very much like the Epstein/ Trump sex trafficking scandal (minus the baby oil). The late Jeffrey Epstein was trafficking young girls to his home for wild sex parties. Like Epstein, Combs used the woman in his life as a lure, manipulating her into recruiting and participating in his activities. This is where the two women diverge. Ghislaine Maxwell is trying to parlay her position as a procurer for a commutation or pardon of her 20-year sentence as a child molester. Sean “Diddy” Combs' ex-girlfriend, in time, moved away from him emotionally and physically and testified about his serial abuse.
Yesterday, Don ‘Diddy’ Combover admitted that one of the tragic victims of this whole saga was that Epstein recruited Virginia Giuffre from his employment. He [Epstein] “stole” her, Trump said. Ms. Giuffre, who went to work for Mr. Trump in 2000 when she was 16, committed suicide earlier this year at age 41. Much like Sean Combs, whose preferences were legendary amongst the celebrity elite, Donald Trump has admitted his own predilections in the past. Famously, in an interview with radio personality Howard Stern, Trump admitted to ogling young pageant contestants. “I'll go backstage before a show, and everyone's getting dressed and ready and everything, and no men are anywhere. And I'm allowed to go in because I'm the owner of the pageant...I’m inspecting it.” In fairness, there has been some dispute about whether this incident occurred during the Miss Teen USA pageant or the other contest Trump owned, which featured participants over 18 years old. In either case, the vulgar disrespect for any woman’s boundaries is at best unbecoming and at worst piggish.
What lends credence to the story are the young women who have corroborated the reports. Mariah Billado, the former Miss Vermont Teen USA, told BuzzFeed that the then-70-year-old Republican presidential candidate caused a panic in the dressing room of the 1997 pageant when he barged in unannounced as the young women were changing. Trump, she said, shrugged off the intrusion, saying something along the lines of: “Don’t worry, ladies, I’ve seen it all before.” In one of the more disgusting bits of radio commentary after shock jock Stern referred to Trump's daughter Ivanka as a “piece of ass,” Trump went on to speculate about what it would be like to bed his child. Miles Taylor, a former Trump chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security, writes in his new book, “Aides said he talked about Ivanka Trump’s breasts, her backside, and what it might be like to have sex with her, remarks that prompted Gen. John Kelly—Trump’s one time chief of staff, to remind the president that Ivanka is his daughter,”
Of course, Mr. Trump has denied these reports, much like he denied sleeping with a porn star, a Playboy model, sexually assaulting E. Jean Carroll, or groping the countless number of women who reported his alleged attempts at sexually assaulting them or grabbing them by the… well, you know. To this point, no Democrat has blindly defended the mention of Bill Clinton’s name in the heretofore unseen files. Ask former Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) and former Senator Al Franken (D-MN) if fellow Democrats rushed to shield their behaviors, whether egregious or hinted at. Society has ridded itself of one Bad Boy; maybe it is time the other Bad Boy in the White House gets more than a rap on the knuckles.
