California should redistrict, regardless of what Texas does [1]

California Democrats are considering options for redistricting, in response to Texas Republicans’ plans to gain five Congressional seats through aggressive mid-decade gerrymandering.
Here are reasons I think California should go ahead regardless:
It’s fairer and more representative of our state. The Republican vote is pretty much concentrated among whites outside major cities. California doesn’t need to draw white enclaves to ensure the racists have representation. It’s not what our ethnically balanced state is all about. To the contrary, our Congressional district boundaries should be drawn to dilute the racist vote.
Go ahead. Make our day. The Texas GOP is taking a risk that a blue wave could sweep their newly cracked districts into the Democratic column. I’m guessing that’s a much greater probability than the opposite happening in newly redrawn California districts in the next election—or in the future. California should go ahead in the hope of goading the Texas GOP into a decision they’ll regret.
More progressive leverage in a Democratic Congress. Got any complaints that past Democratic Congresses haven’t been progressive enough? Let’s load the next one up with California Democrats. And for Californians, we get more votes to get national policies that reflect California values and needs.
We aren’t f’in around. Let’s show ‘em Democrats, especially California Democrats, know how to play hardball.
