National Democrats have decried the redistricting effort — lines are typically drawn once a decade after the census — as an effort to rig a Republican majority.
At the direction of President Trump, Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas, a Republican, has called a special session of the State Legislature to remake the lines in the state in order to squeeze as many as five Democrats out of office in an effort to pad the current slim Republican majority in the House.
The largest super PAC backing House Democrats is creating a new fund with upward of $20 million to target congressional Republicans in Texas if legislators there follow through on plans to redraw district lines to eliminate Democratic seats ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Duggan’s campaign draws big money from Trump supporters and wealthy GOP donors (MI-GOV) Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, a longtime Democrat who is running for governor as an independent, is raking in Republican cash and outside dark money in his election bid, raising questions about his political shift. Campaign finance records show Duggan raised $3.2 million in direct campaign donations for the year through July 20, outpacing Democratic frontrunner Jocelyn Benson and Republican candidates John James and Aric Nesbitt. A Metro Times analysis of Duggan’s fundraising shows a sizable share comes from donors of President Donald Trump, GOP party leaders, and conservative power brokers with vested interests in state policy. www.metrotimes.com/..

Wiley Nickel ends short-lived Senate campaign in NC Former Rep. Wiley Nickel dropped his bid for North Carolina’s open Senate seat Tuesday and endorsed Roy Cooper, all but clearing the field for the former Democratic governor. “I proudly endorse Governor Cooper for US Senate and look forward to doing everything I can to help him flip this Senate seat from red to blue,” said Nickel in a statement. “I’ve still got a lot of work left to do; that part hasn’t changed. Public service is a part of who I am and you’ll hear more from me soon.” www.politico.com/…
