What Voters are telling us at their doors about the Epstein Files [1]

Two weeks ago, not a single voter that i know of — i wasn’t exactly looking for it! — mentioned the Epstein Files to any one of 8,146 Hope Springs from Field PAC [dated website] volunteers who knocked on their door on July 12th. If it was a factor then, it hadn’t displaced The Economy (or related topics), Concerns about the future of Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid or Tariffs. IOW, the normal stuff voters talk about.

But that has all changed.

One week (or 8 days) ago, voters in six states mentioned that the Epstein Files was the issue that they believed was “most urgent facing our country at this time.” The. Most. Urgent. In the country?

I’m going to grant you that this baffles me. We ask ~15 questions, most volunteers offer the survey up to voters before asking a single question (which means they know they have the opportunity to raise the concern in a different way) and, yet, 2,578 voters last Saturday (July 19th) brought up the Epstein Files when asked “What Issue do you believe is most urgent facing our country at this time?”

Now, we already knew that voter responses to our surveys, given to voters who open up their doors in the Democratic and unaffiliated voter households we target each week, are extremely sensitive to the news of the week when we talk to them. But still, how are the Epstein Files the “most urgent [issue] facing our country at this time???

So if i think that (which i do), i was totally unprepared for this week for the 12,535 voters who did the same this week. Even more startling (to me) was that 11 out of 16 states we canvassed in yesterday had the Epstein Files rise to one of the Top 3 Issues. In fact, in all but one state (Maine), voters raised the Epstein Files as an issue they cared about. That’s ~37% of all the voters we talked to yesterday. Not all the stats are in, we always have a couple of laggards (people who didn’t use mini-VAN on their phones or tablets and didn’t turn in their paperwork to their organizers yet). So the number could change a little; that’s what i have now.

In 3 of the 16 states (Kentucky, Minnesota & Ohio), the issue of the Epstein Files rose to the second most frequent issue voters raised. Issues around the Economy remain the most dominant but this is fire. It’s not going away, and, if anything, it’s spreading.

Hope Springs from Field PAC began knocking on doors again on March 1st. We target Democrats and unaffiliated voters with a systematic approach that reminds them not only that Democrats care, but Democrats are determined to deliver the best government possible to all Americans. The voters we talk to continue to tell us they come away more invested in governance and feel more favorably towards Democrats in general because of our approach.
