GA-Sen: Ossoff's (D) Other GOP Opponent Can't Even Correctly Spell The Name Of State He's Running In [1]

From The Daily Beast:

x Mike Collins is ready to put the hammer down and get it done. pic.twitter.com/lgmJcHBd9k — Mike Collins War Room (@TeamOverhaulGA) July 27, 2025 Republican Georgia Congressman Mike Collins launched a Senate bid this week, but the campaign kickoff included one cringeworthy misstep: his campaign misspelled Georgia in one of its videos. A video posted on X by the Mike Collins War Room on Sunday included a graphic that read “Georiga, let’s ride!” rather than “Georgia, let’s ride!” The video was posted just before the MAGA lawmaker officially announced he would run to try and unseat Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff in the competitive Georgia Senate race on Monday. The battleground state has what is expected to be one of the most competitive Senate races of the 2026 midterms after Donald Trump won it in 2024 despite it being represented by two Democratic senators.

Here’s a quick rundown of the GOP primary:

Georgia Republican Senate hopefuls Derek Dooley and Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) are dominating the conversation before they’ve even entered the primary for a chance to unseat Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.). Both candidates are expected to jump into the race during the coming weeks. And with some Republicans unsatisfied with the current crop of contenders, the entry of Dooley and Collins into the fray could set up a proxy fight for the future of the Georgia GOP. Dooley, a former college football coach with no political experience, represents the Gov. Brian Kemp wing of the party. Collins — a conservative hardliner who’s served in Congress since 2023 — is closer to the MAGA movement. Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) and Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King are the other major candidates in the race. Carter has kicked off his campaign by dumping in millions of his own money into ads branding himself as a “MAGA warrior.” Dooley is getting hit constantly with opposition research dumps questioning his support for President Donald Trump and his relationship with the Republican Party. The Washington Examiner reported this week that Dooley didn’t vote in numerous presidential elections, never donated to Trump and didn’t register as a Republican in a number of states.

Governor Brian Kemp (R. GA) isn’t a candidate but he’s trying to have control over the primary:

King, a Spanish-fluent native of Mexico, was appointed to his post by Kemp in 2019 and became the state’s first elected Hispanic statewide official when he secured a full term in 2022. He was previously a street cop before working his way up to police chief in Doraville, a majority-Hispanic suburb of Atlanta. He also came into the race with an extensive military background, having spent a combined four decades in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. His missions included deployments to the Middle East, building pop-up hospitals during the coronavirus pandemic and cracking down on illegal immigration at the U.S. border with Mexico, according to his campaign website. Despite his impressive resume, his campaign left a lot to be desired. He lacked the financial resources of his rivals and wasn’t able to unite the party’s competing factions: MAGA diehards who prioritize loyalty to President Donald Trump and establishment-minded conservatives who would much rather talk about things like tax cuts. His exit comes as the governor is said to be working the phones in support of Derek Dooley, a former coach at Tennessee and the son of the late Georgia coaching legend Vince Dooley. It’s not clear when or if the younger Dooley will join the contest, but he is lining up a political team full of staunch Kemp allies and has been sounding a lot more political in interviews despite having never run for office before. Kemp might have nudged King out of the race, but his involvement doesn’t seem to be deterring other candidates — at least not yet. U.S. Rep. Earl “Buddy” Carter, a wealthy pharmacist, was the first to enter the contest in an effort to try and lock up the MAGA lane, even switching a lot of his social media photos to pictures of himself sharing a thumbs-up with the president.

Meanwhile, Ossoff keeps on kicking ass:
