We now continue our wall-to-wall Trump/Epstein coverage, hopefully with some Scottish insults at the former for seasoning.

Quebec man warning Canadian boaters after he was detained by U.S. Coast guard, put in jail cell
A Quebec man says he is outraged after the U.S. Coast Guard accused him of fishing in American waters and then arrested him before putting him in a jail cell for nearly two hours. Edouard Lallemand, 60, said he nearly drowned during the ordeal last Sunday afternoon after the Coast Guard’s boat “pushed” his boat, causing it to capsize. Days after the incident, he’s still shaken up. “I’m never going to be the same,” he told CTV News. ✂️
There’s much more in the article. I’m embarrassed to be an American.

If Dems Successfully Message on News Outlets Lefty Pundits No Longer Read, Did It Ever Happen?
Let me stipulate that the messaging that Schumer and Jeffries do do is often feckless, though in this case, Schumer released a statement on both Xitter and Bluesky on Thursday first arguing that sending Donald Trump’s personal lawyer to meet with Ghislaine “stinks of high corruption,” which led a few articles. That followed around ten other social media posts, including his prediction on Wednesday that, “Maybe Speaker Johnson declared the Epstein Recess to give Trump time to prepare papers for the pardon of Ghislaine Maxwell. Disgraceful” (making Schumer a prominent early adopter of the theory that Trump will pardon the sex trafficker) and a post (again posted to both Xitter and Bluesky) elevating video of Markwayne Mullin admitting Republicans were trying to give Trump cover. And while Jeffries was more focused on redistricting and messaging on the Big Ugly last week, Epstein was a repeated focus in his press conferences (it was the initial focus of Katherine Clark’s comments), and he was mocking Trump on this even before it bubbled into a scandal. ✂️
It’s a good article. I encourage you to read it.

Effort to keep Alina Habba as New Jersey's top prosecutor sparks legal challenge
Washington — President Trump's attempt to keep Alina Habba, his former personal lawyer, as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor has prompted a legal challenge, as a man facing drug and gun charges has alleged that she holds the office unlawfully. A lawyer for the man, Julien Giraud Jr., asked a federal judge Sunday to toss the indictment or bar Habba or any assistants acting under her authority from exercising prosecutorial powers in the case. He argues that Habba's appointment Thursday to serve as the acting U.S. attorney in New Jersey violates the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, and said that a district court's decision appointing her then-deputy, Desiree Leigh Grace, to temporarily fill the role as the state's top prosecutor is legally controlling. Giraud is "facing an imminent criminal trial proceeding under questionable legal authority," under Habba, his attorney Thomas Mirigliano wrote in the motion. Mirigliano argued that Habba's reappointment after her nomination to become New Jersey's U.S. attorney is also unconstitutional. Politico first reported the request stemming from Habba's position. ✂️
My girl Alina is the gift that keeps on giving. Justice for Alice Bianco!

x With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years. — Opal (@opalescentopal.bsky.social) July 27, 2025 at 4:01 PM
For the unrolled thread, click here . What Professor Lehrer did was pretty funny. RIP.

Trump's plan to bully Greenland for 'game-changing' minerals backfired: report
President Donald Trump's plan to bully another country into giving up its rare earth minerals appears to have backfired, according to a new report. The Washington Post reported on Sunday that Trump's previous statements about controlling Greenland for national security seem to have been part of a larger plot to get favored access to the country's rare earth minerals. Greenland has two-thirds of the minerals most crucial to the United States, which are used by technology companies to build their products, according to the report. One mine is said to have enough minerals to operate for 1,000 years, according to the report. Tony Sage, who owns the professional soccer team in Perth, Australia, told The Post that the mine is a "game-changing rare earth mine for the West.” To that end, the Trump administration sent a "letter of interest" to another local mining company offering a $120 million loan to help expand their operations. However, that plan appears to have backfired as Greenland officials say the country's mining industry doesn't need to grow that quickly. ✂️
I think I love Greenland more than I’ve ever loved them before.

Scotland streets fill with protestors as Trump arrives to play golf
President Donald Trump played golf Saturday at his course on Scotland’s coast while protesters around the country took to the streets to decry his visit and accuse United Kingdom leaders of pandering to the American. Trump and his son Eric played with the U.S. ambassador to Britain, Warren Stephens, near Turnberry, a historic course that the Trump family’s company took over in 2014. Security was tight, and protesters kept at a distance and unseen by the group during Trump’s round. He was dressed in black, with a white “USA” cap, and was spotted driving a golf cart. The president appeared to play an opening nine holes, stop for lunch, then head out for nine more. By the middle of the afternoon, plainclothes security officials began leaving, suggesting Trump was done for the day. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered on the cobblestone and tree-lined street in front of the U.S. Consulate about 100 miles (160 kilometers) away in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. Speakers told the crowd that Trump was not welcome and criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for striking a recent trade deal to avoid stiff U.S. tariffs on goods imported from the U.K. ✂️
I was hoping to see some epic protest signs, but this article didn’t include them. Post some in the comments if you have some.

Democrats use new tactic to highlight Trump’s gutting of Medicaid: billboards in the rural US
The road to four struggling rural hospitals now hosts a political message: “If this hospital closes, blame Trump.” In a series of black-and-yellow billboards erected near the facilities, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) seeks to tell voters in deep red states “who is responsible for gutting rural healthcare”. “UNDER TRUMP’S WATCH, STILWELL GENERAL HOSPITAL IS CLOSING ITS DOORS,” one sign screams. The billboards are outside hospitals in Silex, Missouri; Columbus, Indiana; Stilwell, Oklahoma; and Missoula, Montana. The fate of rural hospitals has become a politically contentious issue for Republicans, as historic cuts pushed through by the GOP are expected to come into effect over the next decade. Trump’s enormous One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) cut more than $1tn from Medicaid, the public health insurance program for low-income and disabled Americans, insuring more than 71 million adults. Related: Trump’s Medicaid cuts are coming for rural Americans: ‘It’s going to have to hit them first’ “Where the real impact is going to be is on the people who just won’t get care,” said Dave Kendall, senior fellow for health and fiscal policy at Third Way, a center-left advocacy organization. ✂️
That’s an effective use of money! More please.

NATIONAL MILK CHOCOLATE DAY
Dive into the ever-popular National Milk Chocolate Day on July 28. When it comes to chocolate, this sweet easily pleases. Since the days are heating up, melt that chocolate down. Drizzle it on some ice cream or mix it into some popcorn. Nobody said this holiday would be difficult. We've been adding milk to chocolate beverages since the mid-17th century. But, in 1875 Daniel Peter invented milk chocolate by mixing a powdered milk developed by Henri Nestlé with the liquor. It's been milk chocolate bliss ever since. ✂️

BUFFALO SOLDIERS DAY
Buffalo Soldiers Day on July 28 commemorates the formation of the first regular Army regiments comprising African American soldiers in 1866. We are showing our appreciation and honoring the history Buffalo Soldiers in the American military. Congress established the first peacetime all-black regiments in the regular U.S. Army after the end of the Civil War. The Buffalo Soldiers (one of many African-American regiments raised during the Civil War) were the first instituted. Since they were frontier regiments, Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalries protected unsettled lands as pioneers moved westward. They also faced the hardships of the Wild West. ✂️
