First let me tell you that I certainly voted for Kamala. I am not stupid/blind/hateful enough to ever vote for trump. So, here are my ideas, probably expressed by other people from time to time, either here or else where but, I thought i would share/add my take on this. While any possible mistakes I thought Kamala and her campaign may have committed never would have ended up with me either not voting or voting for the opposite to right, or even decent candidate, I can’t say I was entirely happy about some of her choices.
The first one, although not necessarily the most important, that one will come later, was the failure to give the Palestinian supporters like myself and many young people across this country, wanted a fair and open hearing. Ok, I would have perferred ideally less of a blind devoting to Netanyahu and Israel. I believe we are continuing in this pointless war of aggressive against the confined people of Gaza by Israel primarily to give Netanyahu an excuse to shame his opponents in the government who want less than an extremely right wing militant government to “accept and support him because devision would hurt the way cause.
There is no doubt that Oct 7, 2023 was an awful event and many Israelis died, but since then thousands and thousands of Palestinians, some of whom are not Muslim but Christians of an array of affliations, notably a Catholic church with a long history and a Lutheran Church in Bethlehem where the Pastor preached the sermon “Jesus among the Rubble” in respond to the Israeli attacks on the long existing churches and homes. His sermon expressed the believe that this was an attact on resident christians as much as on the Muslims by the Isreali soldery. Even when actual war is not being waged, the Palestinians have been subject to land takeovers by the settlers from Europe and elsewhere simply because as Palestinians they are seen as the enemy so naturally occasionally they act like the enemy. If there was a superior force attacking me, and depriving me of a home, I would act violently at some point also. Discrimination and bigotry and mistreatment is always evil regardless of who is the target of the repression.
I don’t see myself as anti-Jewish. I do see myself as at least agnostic about Zionism. The thing is that Isreal is not a monolith. There are European Jewish who were seen as “worldly” and what can only be called Eastern Jews that were used to living within a surrounding Arab society and fitting in on a communal level. The Orthodox Jews were actually often anti-Zionist because they were waiting for God to act rather than political action. In the included vidio below, a young Jewish woman is standing on the anti-zionist side in terms of being “brainwashed” to hate all Arabs.
In addition, there have been videos featuring older Jews who lived though the Holocaust who now are decrying the continued war that many Jews think is being used by Netanyahu to maintain his personal power in the government. apparently many of them want him out of power because they see him as being selfish and not good for the country. There are even young people burning their draft cards because they don’t want to put their life on the line to keep the war going or to keep Netanyahu in power.
I believe the Democrats need to acknowledge that dispite the accusations of the opposition in this country, who have their own religious believes causing them to support the continued war in Isreal/Gaza, many of us agree with Jews and Arabs who see killing constantly and encroaching on homes built and lived in by the original (as of 1948 and before) to be causes that need to be worked out in other ways than constant ongoing war.
I certainly don’t blame only the Jewish people, although I tend to think Isreal as a nation is the culprit in this latest continuation of the evil of war, an issue I find myself with support both from the woman in the above video, many older Jews living is places like New York and other points in this country. The real issue is that Britian and Germany who were among the prior forces behind the immigration of 1948 were “supporters” because they had the ulterior motive of wanting the jews out of their country, so that whole thing was based on systemic racism that didn’t give either the Jews or the Arabs a decent chance at living truly in peace and safety. You surely didn’t thing that the Germans many of who had fought to kill Jews worked to give Arab occupted land to the Jews from the kindness of their heart, did you? The Arabs were basically told that the land they were living in now belonged to this relative strangers from Europe and should give their land that they had lived in for hundreds of years and the Jews told this was people-full land that was totally available. They (the European nations involved) set both Jews and Arabs up for continual conflict. Both groups believing that they had total right on their side.
Now, moving on to the extent that Kamala as well as Biden ignored, maybe not being really aware of the history involved, the concerns of those who have felt like they were set up for exploitment starting in 1948, perhaps persons from both sides of the divide, the Democrats in 2024 failed to answer or at least listen to both sides of the debate within the United States and may very well have lost votes. It was be easy to discount this possiblity but I can report as a 72 year old anglo man that I was a little put off and had prior to the election petitioned Biden to stop supporting the destruction of Gaza and the siding with the greater aggression in the conflict. A sentiment that many minority groups (I being a gay male, identify with minority status) because I also know what discrimination looked like although things had gotten better and haven’t got as bad YET as I feared when the election was over in Nov of 2024.
Now for the REAL reason, I believe the Democrats need to change for this upcoming mid-terms and the Presidential election in 2028. We need to more or less drop the mistaken non-partisan attempt by our candidates. We are doing the right thing right now in my opinion. Stand solidally against the MAGA agenda. It is anti-American and evil at the heart. As we have seen, we now have hooligans with often no or little identification attacking law abeyent immigrants at work locations, homes, schools, immigrantion offices and off the street, picked up simply because of the color of their skin and/or because what I call the trump Gestapo or ICE thugs and dragged out of public view and sent to 3rd world nations, what trump himself referred to as sh*thole country where we have every reason expectation they will be beaten and fed badly, and treated inhumanly.
The entire nation, as far as I am concerned now has blood on their hands because SOME of our fellow-citizens that I personally reject totally and would gladly trade for more Hispanics any day, managed to however, it was done, legally or by Musk rigging the election, got ‘their guy” in. I strongly suggest that Democrats not play tiddly winks with this Nazi types and insist on standing on our own humane and decent values. Our values of decency to all people and the values promised both in the Constitution and by the Statue of Liberty. That means, for the most, do not compromise with the GOP in their war against the democratic republic and the actual constitution of the United States.
That two republicans sided with the Democrats on the issue of the Fascist take over of our government doesn’t justify giving them a bigger voice in our decisions within our own party and conductive to our self-interest which I believe to be in the interest of a decent Nation of the United States.
I see that as the only we can re-acquire any justification for the oft stated value of being “leader of the free world”. To the extent that trump and his hulligans stay in power, the United States is precisely the opposite. A no longer free dictatorial Autocracy or if any voice is given back to Congress...and authoritarian government. Of course taking back at the least the house would modify that “authoritarianism” by giving some chance of successful pushback against the wanna be dicator, but only taking back both the House and the Senate will truly give us a change to be a country of real freedom for the people in it. Don’t compromise with autocracy or authoritarian, rule as close to being a true democracy as possible.
Certainly, I have thanked both Liz Cheney and Kinzinger and would love to see them join the side of freedom for ALL, including women, the LGBTQ, blacks, hispanics and everybody else that makes up this hopefully great again sometime in the near future. However they ultimately were probably only with us because they right realized that trump was even dangerous for them. It doesn’t make it advisable to give them a voice in the Democrat platform on things that are not in our, or the nations interest.
Oh and hopefully we don’t have to actually attack the GOP or actually now the only “other party” is MAGA, just state strongly our platform and hopefully most sane human beings will see that ours is the humane and decent agenda.
