“Libraries across the United States are cutting back on e-books, audiobooks and loan programs after the Trump administration suspended millions of dollars in federal grants as it tries to dissolve the Institute of Museum and Library Services.” “Librarians are facing increasing attacks, including harassment, threats, and challenges to library materials. These attacks often stem from efforts to ban books and restrict access to information.”
“There’s a common misconception that public libraries in America are dying, with the majority of naysayers basing a library’s successful operation on physical visits and loans of materials — books, journals and maps.”
”Similar to the book publishing industry, public libraries have faced a transitional period in recent years. To accommodate the decline of physical visits and physical book loans, libraries began increasing their digital collections, embracing their new technological landscape.”
We returned from our local library yesterday with an armload of books, as usual. Our sometimes interested (nosy) neighbor said “Oh, you read books, too?” Our library is a place of quiet escape, with countless services, including genealogy worldwide. At our LTE-writing class this week we learned that every newspaper in the country is available without paywalls. This will be great for my ONDs.
“Estimates suggest that between 500,000 and 1 million new titles are published annually through traditional publishers. The number of self-published books is substantial, with estimates ranging from 1.7 million to 2.3 million.” It’s hard to keep up.
Since this is KTK…...Approximately 24,000 cookbooks are published each year, according to Publisher's Weekly. Despite the availability of recipes online, cookbooks remain a popular and stable part of the book market. In the US alone, around 20 million cookbooks are sold annually.
We read books in bed every night. Often we choose from the library’s “Recent Fiction” but my favorite section is Large Print Selections. Who cares about content so long as I can see it?
How do y’all choose your books?
