Behind the paywall, here’s the relevant quote:
Wyden revealed that the Treasury Department has a report describing over 4,700 money transfers connected to Epstein totaling over $1.1 billion-with-a-b.
www.esquire.com/…
Most of the reporting has been done on the very large donations, but with that sort of scale, 4700 wire transfers, you’d need a process. A system. As I have written about previously, I was adopted and abused by a financial planner. I had an internship in a financial planning office. I went on a 2007 lobbying trip to DC with a business group from the capital city of my home state.
My personal story involves generational trauma, Catholic church abuse, and PTSD from a WW2 veteran grandfather, not anything like the Epstein case. The suicide attempt and ICU visit where I received my diabetes diagnosis was in June 2020. I had recently watched “Filthy Rich: Jeffrey Epstein” on Netflix in summer 2020 and was in a hostile living environment at the time.
It’s not just people Epstein and Maxwell trafficked who are re-living their traumas. I call this the “Everything scandal” or say its the “Epstein and everything scandal” to make it sound like the worst bagel flavor. Epstein and Maxwell are zeros and I enjoy a bagel sandwich. Instead of being angry or lost in my past, I get distracted with sandwich possibilities.
It also reminds me of why people care about this: if a similar story happened to you or someone you love, this is your everything story and its a scandal about your everything.
Why the “Everything Scandal”?
Because we are a nation of tabloids and true crime and Trump. On Lincoln Square and various substack or news sites I see or hear Epstein called an “Avatar of Corruption” or something similar. Why do people care about this case? A selection of Netflix streaming documentaries:
Filthy Rich Jeffrey Epstein Filthy Rich Ghislaine Maxwell Myth and Mogul: John Delorean Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street Challenger: The Final Flight Cold Case the Tylenol Murders Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story The Family Surviving Ohio State Keep Sweet Pray and Obey Jimmy Saville: A British Horror Story Downfall: The Case Against Boeing Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened Trump: An American Dream Icarus Inventing Anna
The film “Spotlight” won an Academy award for best picture. That story exists in non-Catholic churches all over America. I’ll get back to that Netflix list shortly.
The Legacy of Violence
The Golden State Killer documentary is on HBO max, “I’ll be Gone in the Dark”. The Golden State Killer was a police officer veteran. A common theme in the childhood of serial killers is PTSD from a veteran father. The children of traumatized WW2, Korea, and Vietnam vets became the 70s and 80s serial killers.
How long ago were the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? America has a mental health and youth violence problem again today. Lots of American veterans never came back and got treatment they needed. Lots of veterans still need help today.
The Jubilee Fascist roundtable last week didn’t surprise me because I grew up in the cult that became MAGA. I went to German Bible camps in the rural Midwest. Lots of people on the left need to realize that to the religious right 9/11 was the start of the new crusades. Children who have never attended a public school. A generation who prefers disinformation. The real world is full of plate tectonics and genetics and physics that contradict the Bible. For Example, LCMS Beliefs:
One of the signature teachings of the Lutheran Reformation is Sola scriptura—"Scripture alone." The LCMS believes that the Bible is the only standard by which church teachings can be judged, and holds that Scripture is best explained and interpreted by the Book of Concord—a series of confessions of faith adopted by Lutherans in the 16th century
Book of Concord was 1580, after the Peasants War and the Münster rebellion.
Basically the first thing that happened after Lutherans and Anabaptists split was a war then religious extremists took over a German town.
The Missouri Synod also teaches biblical inerrancy,[50] the teaching that the Bible is inspired by God and is without error. For this reason, they reject much—if not all—of modern liberal scholarship. The Brief Statement of the Doctrinal Position of the Missouri Synod, written by Franz August Otto Pieper, was adopted by the synodical convention in 1932 as a summary of the major beliefs of the LCMS
Many sub-sects of major faiths believe that every word of the Bible is literally true. This is especially hilarious because Luther’s core crime against the church was translating the Bible into the common tongue of the day instead of Latin. Luther gave religious people democracy and now religious people are trying to end democracy, its WILD to think about.
The Peasants War and Munster Rebellion were the result of a “choose your own adventure” of religious interpretation. Today’s people are inspired online to their own reality. Same concept, different technology and calendar year.
If you haven’t learned about “End Times Fascism”, you should look it up. It’s why Tech billionaire “accelerationists” have a coalition with anti-science religious people. The 1000 year Reich is a reference to a Christian idea of a new Dominion led by Jesus before the end times. They aren’t ushering in the apocalypse or Armageddon like most people seem to think, it’s deeper than that.
Catholic and Protestant is the most well known divided between religious groups. Millennial and Amillennial is another divide that dates back to the Munster Rebellion and the very earliest days of the Luther Reformation. One group believes the end happens in an instant, the other has a bonus round of 1000 years before the apocalypse.
The idea of a return of Jesus where Jesus rules on Earth is another wacky German religious idea from the 1500s. From German Fascism 1.0: Printing Press edition. It doesn’t need the 1000 year Reich part to be coded language.
The 2017 Russian Connection?
The “Legacy of Violence” is why Russia will keep fighting another country after Ukraine until Putin is gone, they have a potential generation of future abusers, they can’t let them come home to Russia, ever. It’s why Putin doesn’t care about their lives. Stalin said a million deaths is a statistic, Putin’s North Star is Greed, death is actuarial to Putin...it carries a dollar value.
Dead is better than injured or traumatized to Putin. Dead soldiers don’t assault Russian civilians or commit petty theft after their service. They don’t use healthcare and they don’t get drug addicted if they die in Ukraine.
Russian soldiers who served in Ukraine are also composed of violent people let out of prisons. Actual cannibals let out to fight in Ukraine. Russia will have a crime and drug addiction problem on top of their standard alcoholism if the soldiers return to Russia in large numbers. If you’ve read Annie Jacobsen’s latest book, then you will be familiar with the term “Dead when found”. Russian soldiers in Ukraine have a similar fate. Russian soldiers will get the same support at home as they get on the front lines….almost nothing.
One Nation Under Fear
True crime feels more like our national religion than something written in a book of faith these days, the various subjects are the books in our true crime Bible. Broadly they fall into 4 categories:
Violent/Sexual Crimes Business Corruption Religious Corruption Government Corruption
Everyone who feels justice denied in their own situation, can fight for Epstein victims.
World War 1 was called “The Great War”, World War 2 had “a battle of good and evil” so it’s been called the “Good War”. Epstein hits that same psychological spot from the WW2 generation. Tara Palmeri and other journalists have talked about who Epstein survivors want to speak up for other survivors...not for themselves. It's common outside the Epstein case as well.
Epstein is the everything scandal because he isn’t the avatar of corruption, Epstein is the avatar of unaccountability, rules for the poors, no rules for the rich. Our world today lacks the clarity of the 1940s for some people. The Epstein story and files gives people a way to find their voice by speaking up for others.
I see this less about the specifics of this case, and more about the general sense that the super wealthy and businesspeople have their own justice system. The system failed people before, surely it wouldn’t fail now, would it? Statistically everyone knows a victim of sexual abuse/assault.
“It’s the everything scandal that impacts everyone and if no one is held accountable then what matters?”
That phrase is what I think about when I hear MAGA voters give a wide variety of answers on this issue. It gives someone who stayed silent and has regrets an ability to shout from the rooftops. Epstein is the everything story. I don’t anticipate it leaving our cultural space ever. Trump released the JFK files to distract from Epstein. Someone else will do the same with Epstein files. Trump made this a forever story.
Imagine if the sun changed color during the last solar eclipse, things got bright again after the moon passed, but the sun itself was different on the other side. That's the experience of trauma. It get’s bright again, but the sun always shines a bit differently.
Lots of MAGA voters have repressed memories just like lots of every voting demographic. They might not have words to express why they care. They might not even remember their own trauma. Trump is telling the MAGA base that the sun has never been bright and it’s always looked a bit different.
He’s trying to change the minds on an issue of faith, it wont work for Trump. Part of Trump’s MAGA base is gone forever. These are the “Freedom Fries” people, they don’t really do second chances and forgiveness, only purity tests.
Trump, Epstein, Ivana Trump, and dangerous stairs
Michael Wolff has discussed how Trump told Epstein of Marla Maples being pregnant. Trump asked Epstein about pushing his current wife down the stairs. It is for this reason I placed the John Delorean Netflix documentary so close to the top of that list. Statistically older people die from falls, I’m not going to get all conspiracy minded there. Trump was however, the inspiration for Biff in “Back to The Future 2”. A film in which Biff commits all kind of crimes. Ivana was used as a tax deduction after she died, she was buried at Trump Bedminster to get Trump a tax break.
Given this new detail about Trump, I can’t help notice that Trump keeps lots of reminders of people he supposedly doesn’t like very nearby. Burying the ex-wife you asked about pushing down the stairs at a golf course to get a tax break feels very…..serial predator keeping trophies and momentos. It’s weird in a different way than Trump’s baseline of weird and creepy.
4700+ wire transfers
I’m autistic and worked in a financial planning office for a summer. Epstein was a pioneer of Ponzi schemes and credit derivatives. Epstein used a pyramid scheme at a local high school. 4700 is a large number, if not a defined system, eventually it would create a routine or a pattern.
ballotpedia.org/…
Bundling refers to the legal practice of combining several small individual campaign contributions into one large contribution. Lobbyists for a business or organization, for instance, might collect contributions from employees or association members and present those checks to a candidate at the same time.
Epstein was a political fundraiser, not just Wall Street. While everyone focuses on the big $$ transactions, I’m thinking about the whole puzzle. Are those multiple payments bundled together?
There are a handful of assets that could be traded as payments, one stands out because of its tax avoidance usefulness and commonality: Brokerage Certificate of Deposit, something most people don’t even know exists.
www.schwab.com/…
Secondary market: Unlike bank CDs, which are typically held to maturity (lest you risk getting charged a penalty for early withdrawal), brokered CDs can often be sold on the secondary market before maturity. Just be aware that this can result in a net loss (typically if interest rates rise) or a net profit (if rates fall). In other words, if you sell before maturity, as with any fixed income investment, you're subject to the security's market value, which fluctuates as interest rates rise and fall.
Knowing what I know from a summer in 2005 as a financial planning intern, if I were part of the Wyden investigation, I’d follow those transactions through routing banks. Super wealthy billionaires have people around to carry cash for them, they don’t make bank deposits or withdrawals like regular people.
A brokerage account CD could be purchased with cash from inside an investment account. Then either vested to avoid capital gains or transferred shortly after as payment.
Choice of yield and terms: In general, the wider the range of CD products, the wider your selection of maturity terms, yields, and, of course, risks. If you shop carefully, you may be able to find more suitable—if not competitive—terms and yields by virtue of having a wider selection of choices.
With set terms and rates, you could easily hide payments inside the interest on a brokerage CD. With connections inside a brokerage firm, you could potentially even set interest rates and payment schedules. If Epstein had connections inside a brokerage, different product classes could be payments for different illegal Epstein activities.
To the outside it would look like normal investment activity, but with a fixed interest rate of return, it would be money laundering for child sex trafficking. 4700+ items has patterns within patterns of data. Super wealthy care only about the investment return, they don’t think in “current market price” they think long term value. Here’s an semi-abstract example:
1: John Doe pays Epstein $100,000 for illegal and immoral activities. John Doe buys $2 million of a fixed rate CD @5%. Epstein receives $100k upon sale of CD. 2. John Doe pays Epstein $100,000 for illegal and immoral activities. John Doe buys $2 million of a variable interest rate CD. Epstein receives interest rate value of CD upon sale.
Epstein is a gambler and having been around my fair share of Wall Street types, I could see this as another layer of a game between Epstein and a John Doe. Epstein wanted power and control, he already had the money. I’m not sure it mattered if that variable CD payed out $80k or $125k on the initial $100k agreement, what mattered is that the John Doe was compromised and Epstein ended up with leverage.
Making the payment another gamble is crazy for poor people, they want the agreed upon price. Cue the J.G. Wentworth ad, “It’s my money and I want it now.”
Making it variable interest takes away payment structuring or dates associated with other events. Just random noise on a financial sheet. Variable interest also works for a boundary pusher, it softens the ground. It’s very “who is ever going to know?”
I’d look at those 4700+ wire transfers for what happened on the other side of the transfer. How long did the assets stay with Epstein? Epstein is tied to the St.Petersberg International Economic Forum, where he talked about….crypto-currency. Trump has a ponzi scheme crypto-currency, correct? Where and how did Trump learn about crypto if he doesn’t use email?
Epstein knew wire transfers would be his downfall, it’s why Epstein got into cryptocurrency. Emphasis added to a quote from a previous post of mine:
..The financier’s (Epstein) close contacts with Sergei Belyakov, then Deputy Minister of Economic Development and later head of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum Foundation, which runs the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). It has become the norm for female escorts from all over Russia to be present at the Forum. Belyakov is a graduate of the FSB Academy which prepares Russian intelligence officers. (...Belyakov) helped Epstein to deal with a Russian model who was blackmailing American businessmen, as well as proposing to arrange meetings with Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak and Central Bank Deputy Chairman Alexei Simanovsky. For his part, Epstein advised Belyakov on saving the Russian economy amid imposed sanctions , while also recruiting high-profile guests for SPIEF.
The source for this quote is a twitter link from Mikhail Khodorkovsky. I can’t verify a second source, I don’t speak Russian. Mikhail Khodorkovsky was one of the first people removed by Putin on his rise to power, before Putin’s enemies had a nationwide long-term epidemic of defenestration.
Khodorkovsky was removed by Putin for exposing corruption, no second source, but an extremely credible first source.
Epstein is the everything scandal, and MAGA Republicans better hope the economy doesn’t crater. As much as Epstein is a gross child-sex trafficking story, it’s also a money laundering story at the heights of political and business power and a story about crypto-currency and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
