WYFP: What Is Wrong With Standing Up For Everyone's Rights, Mayor? [1]

So, I watched the execrable Megan Kelly interview with former Chicago Mayor, Rahm Emanuel, so you wouldn’t have to.

Seriously, do democrats really think this man is going to save us, or just the tech bros who are going to fund the upcoming election?

I’m not going to link to it, it’s on Youtube, have at it.

He basically threw the LGBTQ+ community under the bus, the majority of whom (46%) identify as Democrats. The Hill has the most egregious quote.

When asked by Kelly if a man can become a woman in the context of Trans athletes, he stumbled and said, “Not- No” and then Kelly laughed and said “that was so easy...why don’t more people in your party just say that?” Mayor Rahm jokes, “I’m now going into a witness protection plan”

Mayor Emanuel also cited our failing education system, especially student absentee rates and floated a plan to copy programs from Mississippi and Alabama without mentioning the Trump administration dismantling the Dept of Education.

He did say something I agree with, referring to the 2008 economic meltdown, he said, “The bankers should have been lined up on the south lawn (of the White House) and slapped silly” “Just beat the living crap out of them and they weren’t, they were arguing for their bonuses and people lost their homes”

Mayor Emanuel, of all people, should know you don’t throw minorities under the bus when a Presidential administration is attempting to erase those people by legal means and making it more difficult to live their lives and access the health care they need. All of this leads down a dangerous road.

Instead of allowing the media and RWers to pigeonhole Democrats into betraying their base, politicians should shove a mirror in their faces and insist why they want people in obsess about social issues instead of focusing on Republicans dismantling federal agencies, eroding rights and expanding the police state and making life increasingly harder for voters.

There’s a reason why the above quote is the only one making waves, in spite of the fact the former mayor admitted he made a mistake holding onto the video in the Laquan McDonald case so long, that’s because at the moment, Trans issues are getting clicks and the media goes where the clicks are instead of reporting the news.

Democrats need to be the party who stand up for our base, all of them.

Trans people have been with us thru history. I recently finished a book on medieval history called, “Femina: A New History of the Middle Ages, Through the Women Written Out of It” by Janina Ramierez and she recounts a court case concerning a John/Eleanor Rykener who was arrested with a man in 1394. She had worked as a sex worker and seamtress for years but their real crime was breaking curfew (during the Black Plague) and her companion, John Britby was an “alien” from Yorkshire.

There are numerous examples of gender nonconformity thru history, it’s not new, nor is Transgenderism being made a distraction and scapegoat for political reasons.

I will caution Democrats who want to make nice with RW podcasters- these people are spiders, trying to lure Democratic politicians in their webs. You’re going to end up screaming for help and being swallowed. The German nazis began trashing gender nonconformists back in 1933. The film Cabaret may have been fictional but it was based on reality.

Instead, I’m going to let the sublime Alan Cummings speak for me on the issue.
