Good morning, Newdists. Hope you all had a good week.

In this era of banned books, do you have problematic authors on your bookshelves?

I do.

What are your thoughts? Should one ditch books by authors that have suddenly been shown to be problematical? Such as they are accused of having been a member of the old Nazi Party, or they have a hidden history of abusing girls and women?

Have you watched any episodes of Sandman? It’s really good. I’ve always loved the books.

Season 2 has dropped (it sounds intense!) and I’ve gone back to rewatching season one on Netflix before I go on to season 2.

Season 2 is the final season. That was established even before all what later surfaced regarding Neil Gaiman and allegations of his misbehavior with a former babysitter and other women. What does one do — in a situation like that — with a series of much loved books, authored by someone about whom you suddenly find out all kinds of horrible things that are personally abhorrent to you? I’m not conflicted about condemning his behavior. I am conflicted about his books and keeping them.

The book series on Sandman has two teevee shows affiliated around it — Sandman on Netflix, and also Lucifer. The latter is loosely based on Sandman’s resident of Hell, even though the writers for the latter show take significant liberties and the theme differs. One thing both shows have in common is they both utilize music that really fits into the show. [The selection is from a scene when Dream Lord follows his sister Death on her rounds]

So much of my twenties was wrapped around music and that included Neil Gaiman. Because if you remember, he wrote a biography on Duran Duran. I got that one out of the library, and sped through it, oh donkeys years ago. I didn’t acquire his books in order of publication, I got them whenever I had the money to buy them, and time to read. My collection is not nearly as big as many other people that I know, because I read so many of them from the library.

The ones I do own, I moved them off the shelf where I used to see them whenever I walked passed them in the basement. Recently, I moved them out of sight onto another shelf. But...will I ever be able to put them in the shed? I can't conceive of that. Also, onto that old shelf, I’ve moved in other favorites by other authors. This way, I can still get a surprise every time I walk by, and feel like browsing.

Also, I cannot not finish watching the series. It’s like a half finished song that keeps playing over and over in my head. So, I’m gonna watch it and move along. That’s where I am now.

Sometimes perspective takes time —

x Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From what I’ve tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice.

x If you see bison on the road, be patient and stay in your vehicle. Wait for them to move, and do not honk your horn. That will only make them go slower.
