Street Prophets Friday: Warsaw's Royal Baths Park (open thread/photo diary) [1]

Greetings and welcome to another of my little Friday-flavored bits of fluff. This week I'm wrapping up my series of diaries on my trip to Warsaw with Mrs the Werelynx in the Spring.

As always, when I'm hosting these open threads, everyone and everything is welcome in the comments. You see, I'm one of those wretched liberal baby-eaters that believes in freedom. And I'm also one of those freaks who believes that there's no such thing as a late comment. I mean, I've got a busy weekend ahead of me, expect late replies.

Entry to the park grounds, with greenhouses and the university's observatory peeking through the trees in the background.

Hey! an old friend! You might remember Arnaldo Pomodoro's work in a bronze version from one of my Dublin diaries.

A golden eagle-topped pillar with the number 1262 on the base— marking um, something to do with Jazdow? a Lithuanian invasion perhaps? I dunno ...

Just inside the gate we were handed a flier for a free concert taking place in about an hour.

Outside the Orangery

The Water Tower

Inside the water tower, a model of the water tower.

Instead of rain water, I saw a pigeon nest with a couple of hatchlings (coyly facing away from my camera)

Avoiding the line to get in and getting a peek into The White Pavilion

Even before crossing the bridge we could tell we weren't getting into the Palace on the Isle

Nice hanging around outside though

Turning away from that little fountain, I got this view.

The site of the concert. A string quartet played a few popular pieces of classical music.

The sketch I did of some of my fellow concert goers

The backdrop of the concert— Wielka Oficyna - Podchorążówka. A museum I believe.

The Stara Kordegarda, now a learning center.

It probably wouldn't be a palatial estate in the Warsaw area without a statue of King Jan III trampling a Turk.

My fellow tourists were more interested in getting a selfie with the Palace on the Isle in the background. I thought I had already had more interesting views through the trees looking back on the walk to the bridge.

At this gate we skipped the hotdogs and ice cream and concentrated on the fantastic scenery parading past.

The Chinese Garden

A statue of Hercules

There it is! We found it!

Belweder Palace through the trees

Peeking out another gate. Watching a military marching band make its way down the street. Just missed their performance in the park. And no, these women are not part of the band.

We arrive at the statue of Chopin

Not quite so grand is the statue of Henryk Sienkiewicz, a Polish novelist that I hadn't heard about before.

And that'll have to do it for this week. Hopefully I'll be checking in on the diary over the weekend, but I am otherwise expecting to be off bounding through the forested sides of adorable Czech mountains. Perhaps gathering photos for another diary …

Thanks for stopping by.

This is an open thread.
