Renewable Friday: The Path to 100% Renewables in Europe [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Date: 2025-07-25

Solar in Europe doubles in four years, up to 18% of Europe’s electricity demand. Suppose we can get two more doublings in eight years, plus wind and whatever. That would be Europe done and dusted. Spain is already at 100% renewables, as noted below. Norway has had more than 90% EV and hybrid sales for several years. China is racing ahead, and most of the world is now serious about renewables—the $$Real Money$$TM people everywhere, with governments sometimes lagging. Denialism is on the ropes with courts having started to allow all sorts of suits against the lying Oil and Gaslighters.

Much will still go wrong, but our way is clear to Peak Carbon, to Net Zero, to Peak Humanity, and to going strongly carbon negative and actually cooling Planet A back down.

x With half of 2025 already underway, it's time to share some of our latest stats.

Our first headline? Solar is having its best quarter yet, with ☀️ generation meeting 18% of Europe’s electricity demand, a record share. This makes it the main source of electricity for the first time ever in June!

As ever, there is much that you can do personally with substantial impact.

Get rooftop solar panels

Get a power storage system

Get an EV

Get a heat pumpdea

Get an induction cooktop

You can do the small stuff too, about your diet, or compost, or plastic, as we have reviewed in the last few months. Don’t stop just because it’s small.

There is much that you can do politically. See our regular Good News Roundups for many good ideas.

And you can share this post all around on DK and Bluesky and wherever else you hang out.

So you know how Tesla’s self-driving cars are having so much trouble? Check this out.

🔌 PHEVs: +19.5%
