Baby bird after first short flight
This baby fell out of the fridge, and I thought we were going to have to go rescue them before we let the dogs out, but then they made a short flight across the porch, to land here. It wasn’t long before they flew off chasing after a parent who whizzed by.
We took the doors off the old fridge to get it out of the house, and it’s on the porch acting as a storage shed, at least for most of the year. Every spring these birds come back to their nest (which we leave undisturbed behind the empty cat litter box) and raise their brood here. The dogs leave them alone, the racoons and other predators won’t come up to the house because the dogs will bark at them, and it’s safe from wind, rain, and hurricanes, etc. The babies don’t seem to mind the dogs barking or running around. I’m hoping that doesn’t get them in trouble later in their lives.
Then we have our ducks. We lost one this winter to a mix of predator and cold. We’ve let them free

range, and they roost on roof if there is anything about, or under Draco’s porch if there’s a threat from the air. We have another duck who was injured and has now going solitary. We see her around, but she doesn’t often spend time with the other ducks anymore. I have a feeling she’s going to go off and find her own tribe.
That puts us down to three. They like to come out into the driveway when it rains and splash in the puddles. They also keep our frog population from becoming overwhelming. But when they come out and splash around like this, they sometimes drive the dogs bonkers LOL. They mostly don’t bother them if they are outside (except Sunny who likes to chase them), but they don’t like them being out in the front yard by themselves.
Sirius Quack and Quacko
And this is Dot, she was out of frame with the other two, had to get an entirely different angle.
They will come up to us and eat out of our hands still. And if I tell Sirius to take his ladies into the backyard because I’m going to be letting the dogs out soon, he’ll round them up and take them back. He also likes to *slowly* walk down the driveway in front of Harley’s car, until Bit gets out and tells him to move it.
Their food bowls are still in their old pen, and they go there to eat and for water, but sometimes Draco spreads some on his porch, especially if they’re getting a treat like spinach or watermelon. They stay close to home, because this is where the food is. And they know they are safe here. When the one got attacked, Draco came out and chased the Owl away.
And here’s a picture of Stewie with his ball. Yes, he’s scratching in the picture, it’s about the only way
Stewie with one of his bigger balls.
to get one where he’s still and has his ball, otherwise, he’s bringing it to one of us to throw, or chasing it.
Sometimes when he brings it to us, it’s wet, because he puts it in the water bowl when he gets a drink. I will try to get a video of one of his backflips. I’m probably going to need extra hands for that!
And here is a video of Fenna for you all (especially for you, Tippy and Dad)

Fenna vs. Camera. And you got to see how big Rhenn is in comparison.
Hope you all have a great weekend! Bonus points if you hear the “Oh my!” in the title in George Takai’s voice!
