Ozzy Osbourne has died. The pioneering “Prince of Darkness” was born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Birmingham, England. He rose to prominence in the late 1960s as the charismatic lead singer of Black Sabbath, a band credited with inventing heavy metal. With legendary tracks like Paranoid, Iron Man, and War Pigs, Ozzy and his band broke new ground in sound and performance. Following his departure in 1979 due to personal struggles, he launched a solo career that would prove to be just as influential, highlighted by the Blizzard of Ozz album and hits such as Crazy Train. His success spanned across mediums—even into reality TV with The Osbournes—demonstrating a raw authenticity and eccentricity that captivated the global public.

Despite recurring health issues—most notably pneumonia, spinal injuries from an ATV crash, and a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in 2019—Ozzy remained determined. He underwent extensive rehabilitation and continued performing. In July 2025, he and the original Black Sabbath line‑up reunited for a monumental charity farewell concert, Back to the Beginning, in his hometown at Villa Park. The show featured guest appearances from major rock acts like Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Tool, and Slayer, celebrating his indelible contribution to heavy metal.

Ozzy passed away at the age of 76 “surrounded by love,” according to a family statement. His death occurred just weeks after that final performance, marking the end of a storied five‑decade career. He leaves behind his wife Sharon, children Kelly, Jack, Aimee, Louis, and a massive, devoted fanbase. Ozzy’s legacy is one of fearless artistic innovation, breaking cultural barriers, and redefining what rock music could be—ensuring he will be remembered as a true icon of music history.
