The State of Weirdness [1]

One thing I hate is when I tell people I love books, movies, series, songs, and the first top two questions I’m always asked are 1) What’s your favorite book/movies/series/song? 2) Have you seen/read/listened to “insert famous classic” movie/book/series/song, ouf.

I don’t have A favorite anything! Not books, songs, movies, series, not actors, writers, singers! I have hundreds of favorites for various different reasons. Often it depends on my mood. And very few of those hundreds falls into the “classic” category. I don’t understand how people who love these things have “a” favorite it boggles my mind! How did you choose?

Most “classic” anythings, fall into genres that I do not like: Drama, War, Mafia, Romance, gang etc… sorry folks but when I read, watch or listen to something it is for my pleasure, it is to escape, to fall into someone’s imagination. My genres are sci-fi, fantasy, old comedies, musicals, thrillers (not gore), suspense, detective, Mysteries, paranormal stuff (except vampires or zombies) and biographies. And even in those, if there’s too much hype around it, I tend to shy away because people like drama too much so often times the hyped stuff has too much drama in it for me.

I fall in love with characters, not actors/actresses, it’s one reason I can still watch movies/series with actors gone bad, because it’s never about who plays the role for me. Give me a simple story line any day of the century. Those books/movies that intertwine 20 story lines are annoying AF.

I watch bad movies, read silly books, listen to horrible music if the lyrics move me, because again it’s about pleasure for me. Now that does not mean I don’t read deep books or don’t watch documentaries, but I do that for education purposes, not for pleasure. So when I say I love to read, I don’t want to talk about deep books (those are the things that feed my political and social musings), I want to talk about the Sword of Shanara, The magic Circle, the land of Xanth and its silly pun magic, I want to talk about The wizard of Oz or Mama Mia!

No I haven’t seen The Godfather or Read Wuthering Heights, I know zilch about Opera. I didn’t read Gone with the Wind, but I read Margareth Mitchell’s biography! It is the state of my weirdness. I haven’t seen Titanic, but Inception. I hunt obscure movies! Have you ever seen The Legend of 1900? Sublime, Tideland? Haunting but beautiful at the same time, or Pterodactyl? So bad I watched it twice!

Old thrillers are better than modern ones, The Shinning, The Bad Seed, Original Omen… I like Disney but not the ones with only animals or no humans in them for example love The Jungle Book but Madagascar does nothing for me. And I still watch Pokemon!

Oh yeah, and for a Poet? I don’t like very many poets or poems especially those that I have to figure out what the hell are they talking about? I like fables though, does that count?

The state of my weirdness is beyond comprehension! See you all later!
