Good morning, everyone. How about some tunes this morning by Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart? But first off,
Morning Open Thread is a daily, copyrighted post from a host of editors and guest writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum. Join us, please.
Oh, foo. I thought today was Monday. See what being disabled and/or retired does to you? Anyway, now, with an hour and a half left to finish this text, I remembered I hadn’t written anything. At least now I have a topic.
For me, this situation goes back to high school. Maybe it was because of my ADHD or maybe it was because of my 99th percentile perfectionism but I always put off my term papers until the last minute. In fact, that was how I became addicted to coffee. I put off a fifteen page English paper until the night before it was due. Note—I also cannot type. I went from hating the taste of coffee to a full-on caffeine addict overnight. As for the paper? I guess I fooled the teacher into thinking I was smart. I got a 148/150 on it. I got two points knocked off because of two typos.
The tradition continued through college. I started dying there academically since my ADHD wasn’t diagnosed yet. At least my two finger pecking got faster. I also didn’t need to compose any papers in math-heavy economics, which was my humanities minor.
The one thing that got me most accustomed to deadlines came when I began writing scheduled diaries for Daily Kos. In the words of the Command Sergeant Major who was my JROTC instructor, practice makes adequate. You don’t have to be perfect to complete an acceptable diary. The comments are the reason most people are there.
There. I guess I’ve said enough. And I still have 40 minutes before publication.
Our prolific contributor P Carey has become an esteemed MOT emeritus, so there are slots available for bloggers on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If interested contact officebss or Ozarkblue via KOSmail. Blank-slate diaries will fill in those unused slots in the meantime.
Now on with the music.
So what’s on your mind this morning?
