Amid heated debate, no real plan for ‘humanitarian city’ in Gaza, officials say — The Times of Israel
An Israeli scheme to move hundreds of thousands of already uprooted Palestinians to a so-called humanitarian city in an Israeli military-controlled part of southern Gaza has led politicians to spar with the defense establishment. However, officials say a practical plan has yet to be crafted. Even without a clear blueprint, critics of the government have denounced the proposal, with some pointing to potentially prohibitive costs and danger to soldiers, while others likened the suggested site to a “concentration camp.”
Analysis: Concentration Camp, Illegal Orders and War Crimes: Israel's Madmen Have a Grim New Plan -Haaretz
What do you need to know about Israel's plan to herd 600,000 Palestinians into a special camp at Gaza's southern border with Egypt, which the Netanyahu government calls a "humanitarian city"? At first glance – not much more than what you just read. The only natural response, based on international law and human decency, is "no." The plan, announced by Defense Minister Israel Katz last week, would force 600,000 people into a strip of land where Rafah once stood, then lock them in or allow one-way emigration abroad, with more Gazans to follow. It's forced displacement on pain of death or starvation, as a prelude to expulsion. Katz's proposal was also rapidly endorsed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who instructed the IDF to draw up plans for implementation.
Israeli Official: Netanyahu Supports Plan to Concentrate Gazans Into 'Humanitarian City' - Haaretz
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports the plan presented Monday by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, to concentrate the entire population of the Gaza Strip in a "humanitarian city" to be established on the ruins of Rafah, a source familiar with the matter told Haaretz. "The plan is essentially to move all civilian Gazans south, to a large tent city in Rafah, where they will have hospitals and plenty of food," the source said. "How did the prime minister put it? Give them Ben & Jerry's, for all I care," the source said.
'I asked for a realistic plan': Netanyahu pushes IDF for alternatives to Gaza humanitarian city — The Jerusalem Post.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly “threw out” the plan to establish a humanitarian city in southern Gaza and asked the IDF to propose alternative plans during a tense cabinet meeting on Sunday night, Israeli media reported on Monday. The meeting was convened amid reported opposition from the IDF to the humanitarian city plan proposed by Defense Minister Israel Katz. The military has reportedly objected to the plan, not only due to the significant budget but also because building such a city would harm efforts to free the remaining hostages.
Note
I have left Israelis and jews describe this horrific idea in their own words. Words that, if I wrote them, would be distracting since I’m neither.
The only reason that this so-called Democratic Government is backing away from this horror is that the IDF has some financial objections and might harm their “efforts” to free the hostages. Not that freeing the hostages has been the government's primary concern. Breaching humanitarian and international laws is irrelevant.
Look, I know the US has similar problems with the masked Gestapo of ICE hunting brown people and bending common sense and laws until they squeal, but this is only a prelude to what Israel is proposing, budget allowing. Don't let this be a justification/precedent.
These horrific absurdities are what happen when the mask slips from populist authoritarians; next thing you know, it's hell on earth. Again.
