Trump underwater on deportation... Sadly not as much as on Epstein, but still underwater [1]

Andry Romero has been released from the gulag in El Salvador and returned to Venezuela, the country he fled for fear of persecution. Andry, you remember, is the makeup artist who was snatched up because of tattoos and shoved onto a plane which deposited him into a torture prison where he spent over 4 months with no one knowing whether he was dead or alive. We know he’s alive because he could be identified by his tattoos when he got of the plane in Venezuela yesterday. As Sam Stein points out in the accompanying Bulwark podcast video, identifying disappeared people by their tattoos used to happen a lot 80 years ago. What a shitty country the USA has become.
The good news is that Andry didn’t sleep in a torture prison last night and his family finally knows he’s alive. But that’s where the good news ends. Nothing has changed, as far as we know, about US deportation policy. It is as god-forsakenly immoral today as it was yesterday. Far too many Americans still support it as they sit around and bitch about egg prices without a thought for the people whose work makes all those nicely packaged eggs possible.
The Trump administration said that the fate of Andry and the dozens of other men who were kidnapped and sent to gulags is out of their hands. The negotiations that resulted in Andry being freed from El Salvador yesterday put the lie to that.
