Vote Blue No Matter Who -- Really? [1]

I know I’m going to get some hate for this, but I think the old guard democrats in charge need to step down. I think they are too comfortable and out of touch. We need a true opposition party and that’s not the Democratic Party. I don’t think it has ever been a true opposition party during my lifetime. It has always been a status quo party. Democratic leaders always want to get back to where things were before they were voted out of office. There would be nothing wrong with that if we were in a time of normal politics where everyone followed the rules, the laws, and the constitution. We are not in normal politics right now. We need a true opposition party happily and vigorously punching back every day, at the current party in power, as well as happily and vigorously supporting the members of the party so that we have a big enough tent of support to get back in power everywhere.
Which brings me to this article by Aaron Regunberg. He says that “centrist” Democrats typically violate the rule where you’re suppose to “vote blue no matter who”. He talks about the “centrists” not backing Zohran Mamdani, who won the mayoral Democratic primary recently, as well as other recent instances of not backing progressive or Democratic socialist candidates. The party is a coalition of groups in a relationship with one another wanting to accomplish each group’s goals. These goals may or may not be exclusive to any particular group, and the goals of each group may overlap with the goals of another group. I try to be a realist and tend to believe that there are no permanent enemies or allies, but that we have many of the same interests and should therefore be supporting each other where it’s in our interest to do so. Apparently, centrist Dems don’t think it’s in their interest to support progressives or Democratic socialists and their policies, even when the district, city, or state may be inclined to elect them to office.

So, I think the old guard should step down so that we can have a coalition, a big tent party to win elections at the local, state and federal level. I don’t know how you do that if you can’t support other members of your party. The leadership may talk a good game and give great speeches, but that’s not what this time in our history calls for. We need leadership with a vision that will actually get us to where we want to be. So, instead of attaching other Democrats, try proclaiming the Democratic party the party of Madison (federalist 51-checks & balances might get us back to the rule of law), or ??????? (I’m sure someone can think of something better). I found this youtube video discussing the same thing. Take a look and let me know what you think.
