Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!

Yeah, I’ve noticed the intelligence assessment that U.S. did not “obliterate” all of Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Fed chair Jerome Powell still has his job. For now.

Funding for public broadcasting has been cut.

We haven’t heard too much about a major natural disaster in Texas for...what, a couple of days now?

About all that I can see...and hear is the media (print, TV, cable, and digital) blabbing away about are the “Epstein files.”

Look, I happen to think that the Jeffrey Epstein story is a serious story: the tale of how one man was behind an international sex trafficking ring of underage girls; girls that were trafficked to a lot of very powerful people.

I think that the involvement of the sitting President of the United States in Epstein’s life (and possibly even Epstein’s crimes) over a period of decades is something that was known and there is more to be found out.

I disagree with Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi that the so-called “Epstein files” are a mere distraction from more important things going on, although I understand why she thinks that way.

In fact, in most cases, I disagree with the so-called “distraction theory” of politics; that stories are pushed into the media by political players or by the media itself to provide cover from what’s going on.

A majority of eligible American voters either voted for the tacky shoe salesman or did not vote at all.

And if G. Elliot Morris’ analysis is correct, that might be a...good thing…

After the 2024 election, lots of Democrats claimed that if turnout had been higher, Harris would have won. But Pew shows that higher turnout might have widened Trump’s margin.

The essence of this story remains that a majority of the American people chose these particular dramas and this particular set of “distractions,” knowing what they knew about the Orange Julius and his previous involvements with Epstein, Russia, bankrupt casinos, and the like.

It would be a bit too cliché to say that the chickens are coming home to roost (besides, that phrase got Minister Malcolm in a bit of hot water) or that you reap what you sow.

Then again, clichés become clichés for a reason.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments?
