This week when I first started putting together this diary it was kind of slow. Democrats were back in their districts doing community events, local news appearances and town halls. Then Tuesday when I was on the road traveling things got much busier. Hearings in the House, and Senate, the Epstein list fiasco, and more!
Let’s get started!
Democrats’ Daily Blueprint & Democratic Daily Download
x On today’s Democratic Daily Download, @reptimkennedy.bsky.social speaks out at a Western New York nursing home that will be hurt by the One Big Ugly Bill and calls on Republicans to #CancelTheCuts to Medicaid. — House Democrats (@housedemocrats.bsky.social) 2025-07-14T18:03:15.282Z
Chair Ken Martin and @Democrats.
x Donald Trump and Republicans have betrayed Virginians. It’s time to fight back.
The DNC is investing an initial $1.5 million into Virginia to take back the governor’s mansion, win statewide offices, and keep the majority in the state house.

x Thank you @TheDemocrats Chair @kenmartin73 for speaking out with strength & moral clarity against antisemitism:
“There is no room in the Democratic Party for hate speech or incitement to violence and calls to ‘globalize the intifada.’” pic.twitter.com/nUauYMsM3y — Jewish Dems (@USJewishDems) July 15, 2025
x This weekend, Chair Martin and I were in Tennessee because we’re not writing anyone or any region off.
We’re organizing everywhere, so we can win anywhere and make life better for all of us.
Tennessee, like every state in the South, is worth fighting for! pic.twitter.com/uC9gax0cuJ — Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (@malcolmkenyatta) July 14, 2025
x On today’s Democratic Daily Download, @reptimkennedy.bsky.social speaks out at a Western New York nursing home that will be hurt by the One Big Ugly Bill and calls on Republicans to #CancelTheCuts to Medicaid. — House Democrats (@housedemocrats.bsky.social) 2025-07-14T18:03:15.282Z
x In Tennessee, I had the pleasure of meeting @JermaineColeJr.
He received the Three Star Award at the Tennessee Democrats Three Star Dinner and is the youngest commissioner in Nashville’s history at 20 years old.
Leaders like Jermaine are pushing our party forward. pic.twitter.com/pFGJCC4gu4 — Ken Martin (@kenmartin73) July 14, 2025
x Last night, Republicans lined up to vote against releasing the Epstein files.
They'll pick protecting Trump over serving the American people.
Every. Single. Time. — Democrats (@TheDemocrats) July 15, 2025
x Thank you @tndems.bsky.social for hosting me at the Tennessee Three Star Dinner! The road to enduring Democratic success runs through the South, and it starts by organizing everywhere. We’re not writing any state off as permanently red, we’re organizing across the country to compete and win. — Ken Martin (@kenmartin.bsky.social) 2025-07-13T20:53:12.974Z
Democrats doing Democratic things…
x 🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
“Stop looking for the quick fix. Stop looking for the messiah. You have great candidates running races right now. Support those candidates,”
Obama’s blunt message for Democrats: ‘Toughen up’

x Jeffries: Trump has ordered Texas Republicans to try to produce 5 additional seats. I have no expectation that they are going to try to show any political courage. Texas Republicans are likely going to continue to act like political punks and bend the knee.. in doing so, they… pic.twitter.com/7jvIsJh7yM — Acyn (@Acyn) July 15, 2025
x We’re talking about the same Mike Waltz who was fired as National Security Advisor after sharing classified military operations in a Signal chat with a journalist.
That Mike Waltz.
Mike SignalGate Waltz.
That’s who Trump is sending the Senate to be UN Ambassador. pic.twitter.com/xiM0MFOrYi — Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) July 15, 2025
x After I demanded an investigation into what role the Trump staff cuts played in the response to the horrible tragedy in Texas, Trump threw a fit.
Now we know why:
Trump and Noem fired key personnel at FEMA, weakening America's disaster response ecosystem. — Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) July 14, 2025
x .@SenSchumer on the Texas floods: "It's now clear that the administration fired key FEMA personnel during, and sadly after, the tragedy." pic.twitter.com/vburNFTtAe — CSPAN (@cspan) July 14, 2025
x Senate Judiciary Republicans are rushing to confirm Emil Bove without knowing the facts.
We need to hear testimony from this whistleblower to know the full truth, including Bove pushing to say “f*** you” to court orders.
BEFORE any vote is taken.
https://t.co/fYrmhgBhrC — Senate Judiciary Democrats 🇺🇸 (@JudiciaryDems) July 15, 2025
x Raskin: The whole country is saying release the files. That’s what Trump said. That’s what Vance said. That’s what the AG said. That’s what the FBI director said. And now suddenly they want to sweep the whole thing under the rug. Why don’t we have a real hearing? pic.twitter.com/NL36jKuIjS — Acyn (@Acyn) July 15, 2025
x Booker to Waltz: "You denied, deflected, & then you demeaned & degraded those who objectively told the truth & criticized your actions. The reason why everyone’s energy bills will go up.
x Not only does the Big Ugly Bill make it harder to access health care and food benefits, it hurts our ability to work toward a clean and sustainable future.
By slashing renewable energy credits and unequally rewarding the coal industry, Republicans could derail long-term clean… pic.twitter.com/bQ5XUYlg09 — Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (@RepMcClellan) July 14, 2025
x We're all glad Trump survived an assassination attempt, but every other assertion here is wrong. God didn't cause a crazy guy to fire an AR-15, narrowly miss Trump and kill an innocent firefighter. That's insane and arrogant. And Trump is bilking our country, not saving it.
https://t.co/seWhDEfKU0 — Rep. Jared Huffman (@JaredHuffman) July 14, 2025
x In her short tenure, Secretary Noem has overstepped, under-performed, and endangered the lives of countless Americans.
Today, I’m calling on her to resign or be fired. — Senator Peter Welch (@SenPeterWelch) July 15, 2025
x On Day 3 of Anti-Crypto Corruption Week, I’m sounding the alarm in my @MSNBC op-ed: GOP crypto bills don’t just fail to protect consumers, they greenlight Trump’s billion-dollar crypto grift and invite the next financial crisis.

x Democracies don’t censor the press. Republican attempts to slash the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s budget, which Trump called “radical” and “woke,” are thinly veiled attempts to do just that.
We can’t sleepwalk into authoritarianism. I’m fighting like hell for a free… — Senator Jeff Merkley (@SenJeffMerkley) July 14, 2025
x Republicans in Congress and President Trump passed the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” and it’s about time we tell the truth about what’s REALLY in the text of the legislation. — Rep. Hillary Scholten (@scholten.house.gov) 2025-07-13T14:02:32.020Z
x Today, we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Older Americans Act, a landmark law that has empowered and protected older adults for decades. Unfortunately, Republicans' “Big Ugly Bill” undermines many of the programs seniors rely on. www.ncoa.org/article/why-... — Committee on Education & Workforce Democrats (@democrats-edworkforce.house.gov) 2025-07-14T15:55:52.154Z
x As I head back to D.C., grateful to have had the opportunity to meet with so many folks across Northern & Western Colorado. Check out our video recap from last Friday, when we travelled hundreds of miles between Loveland, Boulder, and Frisco, where we had a terrific town hall —our 10th this year! — Rep. Joe Neguse (@neguse.house.gov) 2025-07-14T15:58:02.492Z
Doesn’t matter where you live, natural disasters can occur, and you could need a go-bag.
x As fire season ramps up, do not forget to prepare your 'Go Bag.' As Chief Ruiz-Temple said, that bag should have medicines, food, and water for yourself, your children, and pets. It is important to pack it with a clear, calm mind — & don't forget your important documents & family memorabilia! — Representative Val Hoyle (@repvalhoyle.bsky.social) 2025-07-14T15:59:54.034Z
x Universities seek diversity in their student bodies. They want art students and science students, jocks and nerds, men and women, kids from all over the country. Why wouldn’t they also benefit from racial diversity?
https://t.co/uFBN9KQni3 — Sean Casten (@SeanCasten) July 12, 2025
x In 2024, there were 27 US disasters that caused over $1 billion in damage. The average was 3 per year in the 1980s. While extreme weather and climate change gets worse, Trump is cancelling research and firing experts. (Case in point: see red banner on this NOAA webpage.) — Rep. Ted Lieu (@reptedlieu.bsky.social) 2025-07-14T18:54:22.774Z
x This is literally superpower suicide.
These are some of the most talented public servants doing critical work.
Champagne corks are popping in Beijing and Moscow after they already emptied the wine cellars celebrating the end of USAID.
https://t.co/NHLY5XujgM — Susan Rice (@AmbassadorRice) July 12, 2025
x President Trump said he would go after violent criminals and gang members—which we can all support. Instead, he’s allowing masked agents to detain hardworking migrants who have been charged with no crimes and hold them in cages. It’s un-American. www.miamiherald.com/news/local/i... — Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (@cleaver.house.gov) 2025-07-14T17:57:21.147Z
x We've seen the damage severe weather causes. Gutting FEMA and the agencies that track severe weather endangers communities across the country. Trump is risking our future health and safety for pure politics. — Representative Deborah Ross (@ross.house.gov) 2025-07-14T17:54:49.204Z
x ICE has spent the past 3 months going after farm workers, construction workers and kids. Only 7% of the people arrested by ICE have had a conviction for a violent crime. Where are the gang members and murderers Trump said he'd go after? This has never been about public safety. — Rep. Dave Min (@congressmin.bsky.social) 2025-07-14T17:47:50.420Z
x This is an enormous loss to our state, Grand Canyon National Park, and families who come from all over the world to visit the North Rim. Grateful to our brave firefighters working to stop this fire. — Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari (@repyassansari.bsky.social) 2025-07-14T17:33:01.671Z
x I'm heartened that Trump is realizing that Putin is the only obstacle to peace in Ukraine. Today's announcement should help ensure that Ukrainians fighting for freedom have the weapons they need to defend themselves so they can be better positioned to secure a lasting peace. — Senator Chris Coons (@coons.senate.gov) 2025-07-14T17:11:55.724Z
x Release the Epstein Files. pic.twitter.com/I3ERwzLsIS — Rep. Hank Johnson (@RepHankJohnson) July 15, 2025
x Trump said he’s going to steal 5 Congressional seats in Texas and gerrymander his way into a 2026 win.
Well, two can play that game.
Special sessions.
Special elections.
Ballot initiatives.
New laws.
It’s all on the table when democracy is on the line. pic.twitter.com/iIFin1faPC — Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) July 16, 2025
Oversight
A very powerful report...please watch it.
x I just left the Everglades Immigrant Interment Camp. No, I’m not using their ridiculous name. It was a very tough to witness humans in those cages. Every Floridian should be ashamed that our taxpayer money is being used for this. — Maxwell Frost (@maxwellfrost.bsky.social) 2025-07-12T23:28:40.246Z
x My team is supporting @repdexteror.bsky.social as she assists her constituents detained in Ferndale. I respect federal law enforcement and they must respect the Constitution. www.bellinghamherald.com/news/politic... — Representative Rick Larsen (@repricklarsen.bsky.social) 2025-07-13T17:49:05.276Z
x The X AI chatbot Grok made blatantly antisemitic comments right after @ElonMusk touted that it had been “improved”. This is unacceptable and incredibly alarming. That’s why I joined my colleagues in demanding accountability from X AI. We must not accept this as the new normal for AI. — Rep. Laura Friedman (@friedman.house.gov) 2025-07-14T18:41:34.672Z
x Visited the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu to see firsthand the conditions of the facility and check in with the team and staff that work there. If ICE is going to detain people here, we need to prioritize the safety, security & humane treatment of everyone being held there. — Rep. Jill Tokuda (@tokuda.house.gov) 2025-07-14T18:16:46.200Z
x I led a bicameral letter with Senators Van Hollen and Klobuchar and over 70 of our Democratic colleagues demanding answers from Secretary Rubio on how the Trump Administration assessed the conditions in Afghanistan in reaching this reckless and dangerous decision. — Congressman Glenn Ivey (MD-04) (@ivey.house.gov) 2025-07-14T17:52:48.434Z
x I visited the Everglades detention facility this weekend. They didn't allow us to talk to detainees, but we heard their cries for help. It's unacceptable for America to build no due process internment camps like this. It needs to be shut down immediately. www.miamiherald.com/news/local/i... — Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (@wassermanschultz.house.gov) 2025-07-14T17:41:55.878Z
Media appearances
This is something I worry about for my Primas and their families, heck even a couple of my brothers.
x Padilla: "What if I was outside a Home Depot, because I like to do some work around the house, not dressed in a suit. Would I be a target of ICE enforcement under Tom Homan? Probably. And it is just wrong." — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-07-13T13:36:50.988Z
x La pasé muy bien en @PoliticsNation de @MSNBC con el Rev. Al Sharpton para hablar sobre la situación actual de nuestro país.

x Sen. Maggie Hassan said the budget package's cuts to Medicaid will ripple throughout the healthcare system, including rural hospitals and organizations that help with the state's fentanyl crisis.

x The reconciliation tax bill will kick off millions from their health care coverage. Proud to bring together local health care leaders to talk about this and how we will continue to work and stand together for working families in our community. www.ksbw.com/article/cent... — Rep. Jimmy Panetta (@usrepjimmypanetta.bsky.social) 2025-07-12T21:00:38.109Z
x Proud to bring together health care providers in CA-19 to call out the damage the partisan reconciliation tax law will do to working families in order to benefit the wealthiest families. We must continue to stand together to keep working families covered and our clinics and hospitals going strong. — Rep. Jimmy Panetta (@usrepjimmypanetta.bsky.social) 2025-07-14T15:58:48.597Z
x David Valadao's vote will be devastating for blue-collar families. He knew it when he said he wouldn't vote for it the first time. Then the bill got worse for his constituents. Scared of Trump, he chose to vote for it again. Let him know how the cuts will impact you: (202) 225-4695 — Rep. John Garamendi (@repgaramendi.bsky.social) 2025-07-09T19:09:54.782Z
x Six weeks ago, Donald Trump gave Vladimir Putin two weeks to come to the negotiation table. Somehow, Trump is just now figuring out that Putin might be a liar. — Mike Quigley (@quigley.house.gov) 2025-07-14T17:45:54.075Z
Town halls and community events.
x Mark your calendars for my 100th Town Hall! Wednesday, July 30th in Kennett Square. Can't wait to see you there! — Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (@houlahan.house.gov) 2025-07-14T17:05:47.702Z
x Thank you to Joe Neguse and everyone who came out to our Summit County town hall last week to make your voice heard and discuss the most important issues our state is facing at this moment. — Michael Bennet (@bennet.senate.gov) 2025-07-14T17:30:46.322Z
x Our kids are our future – and setting them up for success goes far beyond their test scores. Thank you to the Nevada Association of School Superintendents for a great conversation about how we can work together to support students in all areas of their lives. Our kids are #MoreThanJustTheScore. — Senator Jacky Rosen (@rosen.senate.gov) 2025-07-14T17:17:59.883Z
