In late 1988, Republicans won their third consecutive presidential election after eight years of Ronald Reagan. George H.W. Bush nearly swept the country and won in a landslide, taking 426 electoral votes to Michael Dukakis' 111. From 1989 until the next presidential election in 1992, a lot of talk was circulating around the country. Many people feared that Democrats were never going to win the presidency again, and perhaps that elections were done. Then, look what happened. In 1992, elections still took place, and William Clinton won against Bush.

Now, fast forward to the early 2000's. Things started looking even more bleak for team blue. In 2000, George W. Bush won (actually stole) the presidential election, and Republicans held onto Congress. In the 2002 midterm elections, the House stayed red while the Senate turned redder. Two years later, Bush won a second term after getting 286 electoral votes to John Kerry's 252; Congress also managed to stay in the hands of Republicans that same year. So, it turned into a double whammy for Democrats and their voters. They wondered: were they ever going to win the presidency and/or Congress again? Was the Democratic Party sliding into obsolescence? Were future elections still going to be held? Surprise, surprise...in 2006, things changed. We had elections, and guess what? Both chambers of Congress flipped blue. Then, in 2008, Barack Obama won against John McCain.

Elections took place then, and they are still happening now. There is no evidence that future elections are going to be cancelled. So, it is safe to say that elections will occur next year and in 2028 and beyond. And, as long as we keep the momentum going, and we continue to organize and fight like hell, history is set to repeat itself.

Just about every time that I go onto Bluesky or Reddit, or scroll down to the comments section of a news article or a YouTube video, there is almost always someone peddling something along the lines of:

"We will not have another election again!"

"There will not be any more presidential elections! Trump is king!"

"Very generous of you to think midterms will take place next year!"

This very same nonsensical talk is even happening on here. Well, I am sorry to spoil these people's fun, but every person who has said this has yet to provide a single bit of solid evidence proving it. So far, I have not seen anything. If I can talk to the people spreading this stuff, the first thing I would like to ask them is: what are you doing, if anything, to fight for democracy and the preservation of our country? Because what they are saying is of no help to us whatsoever. In my view, this “no more elections” thing is looking more and more like a conspiracy theory with each passing day. (Wait a minute, I thought those were supposed to be banned here?)

Yes, we will have elections in 2026 and 2028, and yes, if you ask me, they will be free and fair for the most part (if not completely). There is no reason to think otherwise and there is every reason to have hope for the survival of our republic. We have been through dark times before, and we have prevailed. We will do it again.

(Just a Thought: It is also possible that a considerable number of these comments spreading the "no more elections" talk may actually be the work of foreign disinformation accounts purposefully trying to dissuade and deceive us.)
