Is Epstein the hill that MAGA Dies on--the Lucy Football of hope [1]

I want to pause for a second, not to rehash the tired "who knew what" talking points or scream into the MAGA void about who's still worshipping whom. I want to focus on something very simple.

Donald Trump hung out with Jeffrey Epstein. He was friends with him. He partied with him. He knew what Epstein was about. So let’s stop pretending this is some baseless witch hunt.

Let’s also stop pretending there’s any real moral ambiguity here. Trump is very likely guilty of sex crimes—no ifs, no ands, no buts. And now, with rumors swirling that Ghislaine Maxwell may be ready to talk, the MAGA defense machine is on full spin cycle.

But maybe this is it. Maybe this is the hill MAGA finally dies on.

A Truth Social Meltdown

Let’s talk about the now-infamous Trump post defending Pam Bondi. In case you missed it: Trump took to Truth Social to praise Bondi’s handling of the Epstein files and dismiss public interest in the case altogether.

“Let’s not waste Time and Energy on Jeffrey Epstein, somebody that nobody cares about,” he wrote.

The backlash was so severe, Trump got ratioed on his own platform. For those unfamiliar with internet lingo: that means the replies outnumbered likes and shares—a digital red flag of mass disagreement.

According to Truth Social’s own engagement numbers:

36,000+ replies

Just 11,000 "re-truths" (shares)

32,000 likes

This is the first time Trump has been publicly ratioed by his own supporters on a platform custom-built to coddle him. Let me savor that schadenfreude for a moment.

Nice vintage—2025.

But Is It Really the End?

Cue the pundits. Cue the lefty memes. Cue the “this is it!” takes.

But is it?

How many times have we watched this orange maniac get away with things no average person would survive? From Access Hollywood to January 6 to hiding nuclear docs in a bathroom… and now Epstein. Yet here we are. Again.

Because for a lot of white nationalist America, Trump isn’t a man. He’s a myth. A walking, yelling, ketchup-throwing symbol of the "good old days"—of the White Christian hierarchy they desperately want back. He could literally boil babies and eat them with Heinz 57 and there’d still be people online calling him “God’s chosen.”

Don’t Believe Me?

Scroll through Truth Social. The replies are wild.

“Sir, I support you with tears in my eyes but this is wrong…”

“We love you, Mr. President, but please stop saying this!”

“This is hard for me, but I will always be loyal…”

They’re still kissing the damn ring, even as they try to question him.

And that, right there, is how low the modern GOP has fallen. There is no hill too depraved for them to rally on, as long as it keeps them tethered to the dream of supremacy, dominance, and control.

Oh, and owning the libs.

Meanwhile, in the Department of WTF

Let’s pivot real quick: Did you catch what ICE Director Tom Homan just said?

He said they don’t even need probable cause anymore—that agents should be able to detain people based on how they look. Read that again. Physical appearance. Not actions. Not even behavior. Just vibes.

He later tried to walk it back claiming he was taken out of context. Yeah, sure.

But here’s the thing: This is where authoritarianism starts. Not with gulags. With “you don’t look right” detentions. And they’re already testing that language—already normalizing it.

Final Thought

So while we all feast on the slow implosion of Trump’s Epstein denial tour, don’t forget what’s at stake here.

This isn’t just about a sick, rich man and his island of horrors. It’s about what kind of country we’ve allowed ourselves to become—one where charisma trumps character, and fear of losing power outweighs basic humanity.

If this is the hill MAGA dies on, then let it be known: some of them still went down defending the indefensible.
