A mass shooting happened today a few miles from where I live [1]

Earlier today, a gunman shot and wounded a state trooper who pulled them over during a traffic stop near the Bluegrass Airport in Lexington, KY. Then, the shooter apparently car-jacked another vehicle, and made their way out of town to a small Baptist church south of town on Old Richmond Road--just a few miles from my home, where the gunman entered the church and killed two women and injured at least two more people. Some reports say this person may have had connections with some of the people at the church. As of now, the identity of the killer is unknown, who was killed by police at the church.
Richmond Road Baptist Church is in a well to do area, surrounded by horse farms and a number of upscale homes. It is generally a pretty peaceful area--I drive to and from work along this road every day in order to avoid traffic on I-75. (In fact, that road is designated as a "Kentucky Scenic Highway.") I live just a few miles away, across the county line in northern Madison County. This route saves a few miles and gas during my daily commute.
Most people would never think such a thing could happen in a such a peaceful, rural little community. Until it does. Now, that area has become yet another statistic, another community scarred by a mass shooting.
And like they always do, politicians like Rand Paul offer up thoughts and prayers, but never offer to do anything that will actually reduce gun violence throughout the country.
I wonder how many of my neighbors will consider the fact that this is what they voted for?
I always enjoyed the ride home from work along that road--the beautiful scenery kind of helped me unwind after my mostly hectic days at work. Now it will never be the same--I will always think of what happened today at the church every time I drive past.
No place in the USA is safe from gun violence. No person in this country can simply go about their daily lives without the worry that some lunatic with a gun might snap and kill a bunch of people—not at school, not a work, not while shopping or paying bills, not at a house of worship, not even behind closed doors in your own home.
I hope that if Democrats can once more gain control of the House, Senate, and Executive Branch, they have the courage to do something.
