Wait- There Are 10 FL Counties With No Local Dem Party? [1]

Every two years, a run-of-the-mill Democrat with no real agenda except “Trump Bad” is nominated to run statewide in Florida, raises money, dumps most of it into TV ads while spending a fraction on organizing, and then acts surprised when they get destroyed -- by a bigger margin each time.
They leave no infrastructure or movement behind, and then morale falls among voters, volunteers, and donors. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
What’s worse: there are 10 counties in Florida that don’t even have a Democratic Party county chapter. Some people think that doesn’t matter, because they’re rural and deep red pockets of the state. But when we don’t even make the bare minimum effort in these places, it’s only going to get worse and worse for Democrats statewide.
Going everywhere sometimes means flowery adornments, apparently.
The Fox News talking heads like to scare people that if they send their kids to college, they’ll come home liberal. Here’s the thing: college students often become more progressive, but not because of indoctrination. It’s because of exposure to new perspectives. When you’re not exposed to new ideas and new people, well, that’s how you end up believing everything that Fox News tells you.
We aren’t going to wait until next September to spend money on organizing – we have to do it now. We probably won’t win those deep red counties, but if we shift each of them just a handful of points, it could add up to produce a statewide victory.
So, with no one else doing anything about those counties, we are doing it ourselves. My scrappy team of organizers is setting a goal for ourselves – we’re going to help set up Democratic County Parties in each of them by December.
This is what it’s all about. True organizing. Everywhere. In every community. And guess what: even if we lose, we’ll still have left the state better than we found it. And that should be the norm. It’s time we demand more of our statewide campaigns.
Hillsborough County has a local party, but the county is truly massive- actually one of the largest single counties in the country!
We estimate this plan is going to cost about $30k to start. A small price to pay for a long-term investment. I’m dialing all weekend before I hit the road to south FL this week, but I’m trying to fund this with grassroots dollars in the next few days. Believe it or not, Big Money isn’t particularly interested in investing in rural Florida. Every penny counts, so if you back this idea, even $1 makes a difference.

PS- can I just tell you how much I love that the Superman movie is getting under MAGA’s skin? I’m a HUGE comics fan, so you know I’ve already seen it with my boys. Someone else said it best, “Superman isn’t trying to be political, we just now have real life supervillains.” Every day is a good day to have empathy for our neighbors, and to take the fight to billionaires.
