Three days after AIPAC-shaming, NY Dem Adriano Espaillat endorses Zohran [1]

If you’re like me, you may have no idea who “Jennifer Welch” is. I just got the memo yesterday. CNN has called her a “MAGA Star.” Apparently she refers to Ted Cruz as a “Rapture-prepper.” I'm gonna use that. It’s so much more expressive than “Christian Dispensationalist.” Clarity of expression. It cuts right to the chase. (As my grad school comrade Dave B. used to say: “When the Rapture comes, I’m gonna be one of the smart Jews. ‘Now, what were those two choices again? Hang on, don’t rush me.’”)
Now, let me be perfectly clear, as Barack Obama would say. I am not now, nor have I ever been, a member of “MAGA.” I’m a “Statue of Liberty Democrat.” But as they say: “Search for common ground.” And as the Talmud teaches us: “The wise man learns from everyone.” Apparently, there are “MAGA stars” who don’t think America should be unconstitutionally fighting Pharaoh Bibi’s wars of aggression either. We can share information. “Information wants to be free.” Courage is contagious.
On her podcast July 7, Jennifer Welch went down the list of New York Democrats who have refused to endorse Zohran Mamdani for Mayor, even after he decisively won the Democratic primary. “Blue No Matter Who, unless...” With each picture, she displayed how much money that New York Democrat has taken from AIPAC, under the headline, “New York Democrats Who Haven’t Endorsed Mamdani and Their AIPAC Bag.” One of those New York Democrats was Adriano Espaillat.
On July 10, Zohran tweeted out the Espaillat endorsement.
Now, of course, post hoc non ergo propter hoc. Correlation is not causation. But no matter how you slice it, Espaillat endorsed Zohran three days after he got very publicly shamed for refusing to do so while taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from AIPAC.
Perhaps this suggests a path forward. “Turn every stone.”
