Trump's insane tariff letter to Brazil [1]

Trump's tariff letter to Brazil is the culmination of multiple Truth Social edicts. His buddy, Jair Bolsonaro, is being unfairly treated because he inspired a coup, like Trump. He is also accused of an assassination plot against the current president, Luis da Silva, as well as the vice president and a Supreme Court Justice. Then there's just the normal corruption, fraud, and bribery charges. So Trump feels right at home telling Brazil to stop persecuting Bolsanaro.
I covered Trump's Truth Social whining about Bolsanaro's trial in this post by Trump. Trump reposted it yesterday with the message on top, "Leave the Great Former President of Brazil alone. WITCH HUNT!!!" Hours later, Trump sent/posted the tariff letter to Brazil. We still don't know if he just mailed them, had his ambassadors deliver them, or he expected them to read them on his Truth Social account. That would be difficult because Truth Social hasn't been working for a whole day. I only got the Brazil letter by going to RapidResponse47's X account.
Here's a read like nothing you've ever read before in a diplomatic letter. The fact that he's publishing what should be a confidential communication is another faux pas.
"The way way that Brazil has treated former President Bolsanaro, a Highly Respected Leader throughout the World during his term, including in the United States, is an international disgrace."
Nope, Donald, you don't get to speak for me. I didn't have respect for him at all. Trump disgraces himself by meddling in another country's affairs.
"This Trial should not be taking place. It is a Witch Hunt and should end IMMEDIATELY!"
It's always a witch hunt when Donald sees victimhood. A psychologist came up with a new term for Donald. It's victimcould. He isn't really being persecuted, but he gets sympathy and support for the possibility of it happening.
Some background on the second paragraph. The Brazil Supreme Court, especially Justice Moraes, the one Bolsanaro wanted to assassinate, has issued censorship orders to X for mis and disinformation and illegal activities, causing accounts to be suspended. This goes back to last year and fines were imposed due to noncompliance.
Because of this, and the prosecution of Bolsanaro, Trump is imposing a 50% tariff. Not for imagined trade deficits, not for barriers to trade, but for actions which Brazil has a perfect right to do. I would not be surprised if the US International Trade Court ruling that Trump's tariffs were unconstitutional, then stayed by an appeals court, suddenly had new evidence introduced with this letter specifically. It could change the appeals court judges minds, and it should, instantly. Trump has committed a crime right out in the open in print.
"Please understand that the 50% number is far less than what is needed to have a Level Playing Field we must have with your Country."
Do notice that the letter is filled with unnecessary capitalization, words in all caps, and Trumpian language.
"And it is necessary to have this to rectify the grave injustices of the current regime."
Almost calling for regime change in writing. If he could he'd take over the government and install Bolsonaro, he would. Democrats should be furious at this governmental intrusion.
At the end of the first paragraph on the second page of the letter, it threatens a Section 301 investigation. This allows the US Trade Representative to investigate and retaliate against unfair foreign trade practices.
"If you wish open your heretofore closed Trading Markets to the United States, and eliminate your Tariff, and Non-Tariff, Policies and Trade Barriers, we will, perhaps, consider an adjustment to this letter."
Perhaps? You expect a country to bow down without any guarantees? Of course, they won't anyway, but that's the way Trump thinks. Or it's the result of when he doesn't think.
Brazil is part of BRICS, an organization who's original members are Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. They could be a trade threat to the United States as well as a threat to the United States dollar being the world's reserve currency. In the back of his mind, Trump might be thinking about this. But it could just be all about Bolsonaro.
"You will never be disappointed with the United States of America."
I think the whole world is disappointed with the United States of America. We have a madman running the country. Some countries have even used the word madman, publicly.
"Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
It's no different than one of his Truth Social posts. The same sign off. However, in this case, he's actually talking about Brazil paying attention to it.
If this crime in print doesn't get Trump into hot water, I don't know what could. Maybe if the Epstein and Maxwell black books get published and you see Trump in them, or if they find the videos of him with underaged girls, that would do it.
Brazil's response is angry yet measured. President da Silva said, "Brazil is a sovereign country with independent institutions that will not accept control by anyone; the trial of those who planned a coup d'etat falls under the jurisdiction of the Courts; freedom of expression does not protect violent practices; and the information that the United States has a trade deficit with Brazil is false. In fact, the US has run a trade surplus of around $410 billion over the past 15 years."
Brazil has also recalled its ambassador to Washington for consultations. Brazil is the United States second largest trading partner after China. Wait till you see what this does to coffee and orange juice prices.
Here's da Silva'a statement put through Google translate.
That was right to the point. Trump is full of it. Hateful content, racism, scams and frauds describes Donald Trump to a T. He also violates human rights and democratic freedom, and freedom of expression. The only thing Trump doesn't do is child pornography. Small favor.
I await an outraged response from everyone except Fox News. We'll see.
