Russian stuff blowing up: Russian drone warehouse burns in Rostov [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Date: 2025-07-09

Russia unleashed one of its largest drone/missile attacks of the war, targeting the city of Lutsk, which is northeast of Lviv and close to the border with Poland.

x Last night, Russia launched 741 (❗️) aerial targets on Ukraine: ◾️728 drones;

◾️7 cruise missiles;

◾️6 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles. Most of them targeted Lutsk. Russian terror on Ukraine intensifies.

The attack included missile strikes at a Ukrainian air base.

x What appears to be the arrival of two Russian Kynzhal hypersonic missiles and two Kh-101 cruise missiles at the Ukrainian air base in Ozerne, Zhytomyr Oblast, earlier this morning. Both NASA FIRMS and NOAA 20 conform large fires at the base. #OSINT #UkraineRussiaWar

Russia also killed a 14-month-old boy in Kherson.

x 2/ His toys lay scattered, thrown by the force of the blast. According to Olexandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, the little boy was inside the house with his great-grandmother at the time. She was injured in the attack.

A Russian warehouse loaded with drones is consumed by fire. There was a warehouse fire in Rostov yesterday that reportedly stored appliances. It is not clear to me if these are separate incidents.

Assuming they are the same, a warehouse full of drones is a bigger score than blowing up a bunch of washing machines.

Anyway, the dinosaur stencil on the window in the video is a nice touch.

x “At first, the fire on Orskaya Street covered 2.2 thousand square meters. But then it increased to 15 thousand square meters due to the high fire load inside the warehouses.” “The fire is also being extinguished by two Mi-8 helicopters” Blows my mind that they’ll use helicopters for this in a city

Good to see Ukraine advancing somewhere for a change instead of Russia.

Ukraine lights up the night sky over Rylsk, a town in the Kursk region just west of the Kursk nuclear plant.

A Russian remote mining system is destroyed. Too bad it wasn’t loaded at the time.

They must be training Russians now in how to jump/fall off a motorcycle right before the drone strikes.

This Russian T-72 survived several drone hits, but was finally stopped by a mine.

x Blyatbarn 3.0.. A Russian T-72B3M tank reportedly took at least five hits from Ukrainian FPV drones and was immobilized after hitting an anti-tank mine. The vehicle was outfitted with nearly every known improvised protection system.

When you find yourself on the same side of an issue as Newt Gingrich, you know you have arrived in Upside Down Land.

x US-Republican Newt Gingrich: "Putin is making it very clear that any truce in Ukraine will come only when he is defeated. We talk, he kills Ukrainians. We talk some more, he kills more Ukrainians. He has openly said he wants to destroy Ukraine and that is his war aim.

"We don’t need a single American military person fighting in Ukraine. We do need to provide advanced weapons in quantity, permission to hit against military targets in Russia and vastly expanded sanctions against Russia. Only then will a ceasefire be possible."

The EU and NATO could solve a lot of issues by booting out Hungary and Slovakia.

x ⚡️ Slovakia continues to block EU's 18th Russia sanctions package, media reports. Since EU sanctions require unanimous backing, a single country's veto prevents the package from being implemented.

The soap opera about the death of Russian Transportation Minister Roman Starovoit continues.

So, who should play Starovoit in the Netflix series?

x 1/ The late Russian transport minister, Roman Starovoit, is reported to have amassed more than 1 billion rubles ($12.7m) worth of property and luxury watches, likely the proceeds of fraud and bribery. More details of his death on Monday have also emerged. ⬇️

[image or embed] — ChrisO_wiki (@chriso-wiki.bsky.social) July 8, 2025 at 3:43 PM

3/ According to the INSIDER-T Telegram news channel, "His mistress did not want to give the keys to the dacha of the ex-minister who committed suicide, so they had to break down the door. What they saw astonished the security forces." 4/ "The luxurious interiors looked more like a Florentine palace than a Moscow suburban mansion of a civil servant. 5/ "It also turned out that Starovoit was a big fan of expensive watches (apparently, some of these watches were bribes from businessmen) – the entire collection has now been confiscated. 6/ "It is also specified that Starovoit kept huge sums of money at home – all in cash in dollars and euros. All this money has now been confiscated, since (judging by the amount of cash) we are clearly not talking about the labour income of the modest[ly paid] minister." 7/ Starovoit's palatial three-story dacha in the Myakinino district outside Moscow, not far from the park where he shot himself, is worth 260 million rubles ($3.3m). It has its own swimming pool and sauna. …. 11/ On the morning of his death, according to the VChK-OGPU channel, Starovoit "sent a message to a security guard from a parking lot near Malevich Park, indicating where he could be found. After that, he shot himself."

x 12/ His body was identified by his girlfriend Polina Kopilova, a 25-year-old medical school graduate turned model from the Kursk region. Starovoit had divorced his wife in 2021 and brought Polina back to Moscow with him when he was promoted to the post of transport minister.

The moral of this story is — pick your accomplices carefully.

14/ "Several days ago, the Kremlin called the former Minister of Transport Starovoit with a harsh ultimatum: return everything stolen during the construction of fortifications near Kursk, plus a few extra — allegedly “compensation for reputational damage,” insiders say. 15/ "Earlier, he and the Kremlin had come to an agreement that he would return all the money and work to return in the capital, which is why a criminal case was not opened after his resignation from the governor’s post. 16/ "According to the source, the former minister begged for a deferment, citing the fact that “the person responsible for keeping the money” could not yet hand it over. 17/ "He vowed to work off the debt for years, but in response he heard: “The dismissal on July 7 is the point of no return. After that — a criminal case.” 18/ "The next day, a crushed Starovoit arrived at his daughter’s competition. Witnesses described his condition as “silvery pale”: he barely spoke, hugged the child with a stifled “Forgive me...” — and left 40 minutes later. This was his last public appearance, the insider says. 19/ "In recent days, Starovoit tried to call the accomplice responsible for keeping the money, but he cut off all contact and settled somewhere in the United States, as far as the informant knows from the words of the ex-minister himself in a private conversation." 20/ The accomplice is said to have acted as a 'wallet' for some of the money stolen by Starovoit, which was reportedly held as cryptocurrency. Starovoit had also put his Myakinino mansion up for sale. 21/ Starovoit asked the accomplice "to return at least part of the money for a deal with the investigation - this was his chance to extend the agreement and protect his family." 22/ "The ex-accomplice promised to help, but instead, he zeroed out the crypto wallets, which allegedly contained part of the stolen money, and disappeared without a trace, leaving Starovoit to his fate. This deprived the ex-governor of his last trump card in negotiations with investigators." 23/ Scout reports: "Before his death, he asked his loved ones to take care of his family, and his last message to the former accomplice in a secret chat was: 'Give at least part of it to my family, freak. I will get you from the other world and answer for your words.'" /end

Good grief. 🤦‍♂️

How many stories questioned his mental capacity would be written if Biden said this?

x "Putin treats people terribly, so I approved sending defensive weapons to Ukraine. I’m seriously considering sanctions against Russia. As for what I’ll do with Putin—that’s a surprise. And any country joining BRICS gets a 10% tariff," Trump said.

The chances that Trump actually told Putin that he would bomb Moscow are slim and none.

x Last year, during a closed-door meeting with donors, Donald Trump claimed that he once tried to deter Vladimir Putin from attacking Ukraine. He said he had threatened to “bomb Moscow to hell.” This was reported by the American news channel CNN.

Maybe someone should show this photo to Trump.

x Where in the world would carrying the flag of another country result in this? A couple of teens took the first photo, wrapped in a Star Spangled banner outside the FSB building in St Petersburg.

So they were arrested and forced to sing the Russian anthem on video while standing on the US flag

You don’t need to have a death wish to fly on a Russian airline but it probably helps.

x ⚡️ Despite security risks, Russia to reopen Gelendzhik Airport in drone-struck Krasnodar Krai. The decision comes just days after nearly 500 flights were grounded across major Russian airports on July 5–7, due to security threats from Ukrainian drone attacks.

Another 1,050 Russians plus 5 tanks

Another 63 Russian officers have been confirmed as killed, bringing the total for the war to 6,606. This update at Twitter indicates a major general is among them.

x “there is hope that the smell of a sweaty body, which has always been associated with the heat in the city, is gradually disappearing from public transport. “

Mexican cartels have learned some lessons from the war in Ukraine.

This is not a good development but it was inevitable.

Looks like they’ll be staying in Ukraine for an extended visit.

x Ukraine caught two Chinese spies trying to steal secrets about the domestic Neptune missile that sank Russia's biggest warship — Security Service of Ukraine. The SBU arrested a 24-year-old former Kyiv university student and his father, who flew in from China to coordinate the operation.

Bombed in the morning. Back in business by afternoon.

x This coffee shop in Kharkiv was bombed at 6 AM, yet it was cleaned up and reopened by the afternoon. When people claim Kharkiv survives because Russia doesn't want to destroy us, don't believe them. They destroy everything. But we wake up, clean up, patch things up, and live on 💪

Before imposing more sanctions, maybe Western countries can try to prevent shit like this from continuing.

Nothing to see here. Just another major Russian enterprise in need of a government bailout.

“PJSC RusHydro, Russia's largest power generating company, which accounts for 12% of all electricity generated in the country, is experiencing financial problems. This was announced by the head of RusHydro, Viktor Khmarin, at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.” “"The financial situation is quite difficult, because prices for everything are rising, there is high inflation and, accordingly, the company is highly indebted," Khmarin complained, adding that he "regularly" asks the government for benefits and assistance.” “Last year, RusHydro, which owns 60 hydroelectric power plants, as well as dozens of thermal power plants in 31 regions of Russia, received 61.2 billion rubles in net losses, and also reported a sharp increase in debt - from 355 to 567 billion rubles…”

How are people in Russia going to watch cat videos now?

x 🛜🚫 A new record for internet outages has been set in Russia! ➡️ Mobile internet has disappeared in 79 of the country's 89 regions; ➡️ In 48 regions, users also complain about restrictions on wired internet; ➡️ In 4 regions, a complete failure of wired internet was recorded for the first time.

Grok went off the deep end yesterday, like your drunk uncle at Thanksgiving dinner only with an extra helping of racism.

Hopefully somebody pulled the plug.

x Apparently this kind of thing is happening across multiple languages. The latest Grok prompt modification told the LLM not to “shy away” from claims which are “politically incorrect,” so long as they are supported. And the model was trained on an internet with a lot of “support” for this stuff.

Elon’s Grok is working about as well as his Starship.

Rest in peace.

When life above ground becomes too dangerous, it just moves underground.

I predict that the little girl at the end of this video will grow up to become a great Ukrainian leader.
