Good evening, everyone!! So good to see you all here!
I’d like to start with a terrific article by Norm Eisen. It was written leading up to the July 4th holiday, but he exudes such optimism in the face of adversity and it speaks to me as I hope it will to you.
Where we go from here
It has NEVER been more important for us to stand up, speak out, and use the full force of the power of WE THE PEOPLE! I know it can get exhausting but we mustn’t falter now. We have a country to save!

This next article is also extremely heartening.
Donald Trump understands branding. He spent his life slapping his name on everything in his sight. Buildings. Casinos. An airline. A “university”. Steak. Water. The allure of the Trump brand was success. Donald Trump branded himself a winner, therefore anything with his name on it shared the attributes of winning. He was famous, glamorous and allegedly rich. Associate yourself with his name and you could be these things too. The reality, of course, was quite different, but that doesn’t matter much when you can sell the fantasy. The reality of the Trump brand is flimflam, deceit, smoke and mirrors—a gaudy veneer covering a cesspool of lies. It’s closer to the truth that his legacy is a litany of failure. Now Donald Trump has worked his magic on the Republican party. In the first months of his second presidency, he has successfully rebranded it and set it on a course to share the same fate as the Trump Shuttle, Trump University, and Trump Steaks. The process culminated with the passage of the monstrous bill he signed into law on Friday. ✂️ If the key to a successful brand is simplicity, Republicans had it during the Reagan era. You could distill the Republican brand to a few words. Fiscal responsibility. Family values. Peace through strength. It’s so simple, you could write it on an index card. Even when this branding didn’t match up very well with reality, it served as a highly effective messaging tool. Republican presidents could explode the deficit but the party’s candidates could still run as responsible fiscal stewards because the brand was so enduring. ✂️ Because of Donald Trump, Republicans are now the party of pain and suffering that helps the rich at your expense. ✂️ During the New Deal era that stretched through the 1960s, Democrats and liberals were associated with improving the lives of working people. During the Reagan era, Republicans and conservatives were associated with economic and international strength. ✂️ In less than six months, he has blown that apart. Now codified as legislation, the damage Trump has done to his party will last long after he is gone, with the potential to define his party in the political alignment that emerges from the ashes of the Trump era. ✂️ Add these things together and you have the rebranding of Republicans as the reverse Robin Hood party, hurting the working class and needy to give to the rich. It’s so simple, you could write it on an index card. === More news from Marc Elias regarding Republicans’ push to disenfranchise voters. This particular instance targets overseas voters from Arizona. My first thought is with chloris creator. Democracy Docket July 5, 2025
The RNC has moved its campaign against voting rights to target U.S. citizens living abroad. We are still more than a year away from the 2026 elections. This is just the beginning. On Monday, Republicans filed a lawsuit seeking to disenfranchise certain Arizona voters who are living overseas. Arizona law allows Americans living abroad to vote in the state if at least one parent is a registered Arizona voter. This follows a similar effort by Republicans to disenfranchise North Carolina voters and steal a state Supreme Court election. To be clear, these voters are U.S. citizens, many of whom are the adult children of service members and diplomats, who have the fundamental right to cast a ballot — mail-in or otherwise. Republicans no longer hide their motivation in bringing these anti-voting cases: The citizens affected by the lawsuit are disproportionately Democratic. In fact, as the lawsuit notes, only around 18% of overseas voters in Maricopa County are registered Republicans. This is just the tip of the voter suppression iceberg. It’s part of a much larger Republican strategy to suppress Democratic voices via attacks on mail-in ballots, proof of citizenship requirements and restrictions on who is allowed to vote. ✂️
Call of the Horizon Day epitomizes the inherent human desire to explore the unknown, challenge our limits, and seek out new experiences. It encourages individuals to step out of their comfort zones and set their sights on uncharted territories, both metaphorically and literally. This day serves as a catalyst for self-discovery, pushing people to broaden their horizons and unleash their potential.
