The sloop Restauration [1]

Vesterheim Museum and the people of Stavanger, Norway are celebrating the bicentennial of the emigration of Norwegian families to the US. In 1825, 52 Norwegian settlers arrived in New York from Stavanger, fleeing religious discrimination and beginning the Norwegian immigration into the upper midwest. As a descendent I honor their arrival as I will also celebrate the arrival of a replica sloop Restauration on October 9.

The vessel was launched with much fanfare and the presence of the queen on July 4.

There is an educational emphasis to the voyage, on the continuing plight of emigrants.
