Judge States Either Trump's DOJ Is Lying Or El Salvador Is Lying [1]

Today a judge handling one of the cases of people sent by Trump to an El Salvador concentration camp effectively told government attorneys that either they are lying to him or El Salvador is lying to the United Nations. The judge made clear the Department of Justice has some explaining to do, and the government attorneys to explain.
The U.N, Human Rights working group asked El Salvador to explain what happened with four individuals disappeared from the United States into that concentration camp. El Salvador responded that “the jurisdiction and legal responsibility for these persons lie exclusively with the competent foreign authorities,” (the United States).
Weeks ago the judge ordered one of the prisoners, Cristian, returned to the United States and for the government attorneys to advise the court what the government was doing to facilitate their return. In today’s letter Judge Gallagher noted that the government attorneys had repeatedly told her the Department of State was in “diplomatic discussions” with El Salvador to effect Cristian’s return, The judge notes:
“Assuming the Government of El Salvador provided truthful information to the UN, no ‘diplomatic discussions’ should be required here because El Salvador has no sovereign interest in Cristian’s continued confinement in that country. This Court directs Defendants to explain their position that ‘diplomatic discussions’ involving the DOS are required to facilitate Cristian’s return to the United States in compliance with this Court’s Order.”
Government attorneys once again find themselves dancing with potential contempt of court proceedings.
