There are diaries on this site that offer discussion of books. This is good news to me as I process the decline in literacy in this country (Half of U.S. adults can’t read a book written at the 8th-grade level). Apparently Ivy League student are unable to read a complete book when it is assigned by the professor.(YIKES)
Since my childhood back in the Fifties I have been an avid and at times voracious reader as I made my way through the educational system coming out of it with a B.S. in 1969. Those tumultuous times led me to being out on the streets, unhoused and literally singing for my supper. After years of trying to move through the dominant system of employment for wages I discovered System D and found myself with a cohort of roadies on the flea market circuit traveling around the lower 48 with a buy/sell/trade plan that kept us moving along. This free and flexible lifestyle allowed me to mingle with those in other subcultures and allow me to meet some notable and high energy persons. But I digress.
Now this country is experiencing 'The Boomer Avalanche' and I have 4+ decades of collected items of all types including books. There are books and there are books and this collection is very eclectic spanning the 19th and 20th centuries. A number of these books are biographies, memoirs and diaries of notable people including world leaders and others involved in the political arena. Since there are diarists here who may be interested in these volumes for background material I want to empower them "with information and tools to directly impact the political process" as per the community guidelines.
