Once again MAGA making Mt. Everest out of a mole hill [1]

MAGA by making a Mt. Everest out of a mole hill is a long-standing habit of the SOcial CONServative talking chamber. For example, look at how they are pearl-clutching over three proposals by NYC mayoral candidate Mamdani for a rent freeze, city-owned grocery stores, and free bus fares. This sounds horrible to MAGA who live in a comprehension-lacking rural communities that have generational housing but complain about property taxes and insurance rates going through the roof, that don’t have a Walmart, and have no access to public transportation.

Has anyone heard the corporate media mention that the rent freeze applies only to government-approved rent-stabilized apartment units, there would be a total of five grocery stores, and the free bus fares would apply to five bus lines.

1. Rent freeze means that landlords would be unable to raise the rents on roughly 1 million rent-stabilized apartments across the city where landlords made a contract, That represents 25% of a total of nearly 4 million apartments in NYC. Rent hikes (or freezes) are decided by the Rent Guidelines Board, and the board froze the rent on three occasions: in 2015, 2016, and in 2020. The idea is to hold rents where they are to give tenants a chance to catch up to the rising cost of living.

2. FIVE city-owned grocery stores to address some of the city’s food deserts, where there aren’t enough grocery stores to serve residents. There would be only one in each borough — in a sea of some 15,000 privately owned grocery stores.

3. Fare-free buses on five lines, out of a total of 320 in New York City, that do not include the subway system, to encourage people to ditch their cars and ride the bus, and assist people making less than $28,000 a year. The fare-free proposal is packaged with a commitment to invest in improving infrastructure — like building more dedicated lanes — to make bus trips more efficient.

These actually sound like reasonable proposals compared to SOCONS programs like:

Reducing building codes and refusing to install early warning systems in flood-prone areas.

A ban on 10 NCAA transgender athletes nationwide, out of nearly 600,000.

Still building bridges and highways to “nowhere,” rather than expanding our transit system, while 221,800 U.S. bridges require major repair or replacement, representing about 36% of the nation's bridges. A significant portion of these, around 42,067, are classified as "structurally deficient."

The latest from Georgia is that their governor just gave out politically motivated tax “giveaway checks,” then informed school systems that the State could only afford to fund 230 school buses, even though the systems desperately need 600!!

As a result, SOCONS still complain, or can’t understand why America isn’t listening to them, and that they are being left behind. Its rather tough when you think a mole hill is Mt. Everest.
