Just a personal anecdote here. I’m a retired federal worker & just got into contact with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) regarding adding my new wife, who is a Canadian citizen to my health insurance.
I was contacted by an OPM agent regarding adding my wife to my insurance. It seems that they couldn’t add her without a Social Security number. It’s going to take 9 months or more (I’m an optimist) to get that SS # from immigration along with her Green Card. I able to get the agent on the phone only to find out that she wasn’t able to answer my question because she was a contractor & had to talk to an actual OPM agent to get the answer.
The woman I spoke to was nice enough & knew who I was & my issue right away (improved computers?) but I am wondering who she works for.
Apparently, DOGE has contracted out a lot of services that were once performed within OPM. I wonder if there is an actual cost savings (for the taxpayer) as a result & who is making money from this contract? A bit of cronyism perhaps?
