New Day Cafe: The Furries Take On Pittsburgh [1]

Good morning, Newdists! I hope everybody had a relaxing (if not celebratory) Independence Day weekend.

I was planning to go to my BFF’s house in Austin to spend the Fourth with her family. It was also her young daughter’s birthday, so I tailored the dish I made (peach pudding) to the birthday girl’s tastes by using mango instead of peaches and pineapple preserves instead of peach preserves. I called it “tropical pudding,” lol. But sadly, the birthday girl never got to taste it. I’m sure you saw in the news about the horrific flooding in central Texas, and while it never got that bad where my friend lives, it was bad enough that I thought twice about going. I got as far as Brenham (about 75 miles outside of Houston) before my friend texted me about the unfolding weather situation, and after checking the radar, I decided it wasn’t worth the risk. So I turned around with my tropical pudding.

Fortunately, the BF was planning to go to a furry party (he didn’t want to come to Austin with me), so I sent the dish to the party with him. And, if you’re wondering how the tropical pudding turned out, it got the furry stamp of approval. Apparently it was one of the most popular dishes at the party! Granted, the furry circles the BF runs around in isn’t exactly known for their good taste in food. But I’ll take what I can get.

Speaking of furries, this weekend happens to be when one of the largest furry conventions in the world takes place. Anthrocon is in Pittsburgh this weekend, and while I’m not a furry myself, I do consider myself furry-adjacent and a furry ally (because of the BF). I also enjoy Pittsburgh, so if the BF ever wanted to go to Anthrocon, I might actually tag along. I’ve been looking at some of the fursuits and scenes from this weekend on Bluesky, and I thought I’d share some of them here. However, this comes with a warning: Everything I’m posting here will be safe for work, but if you go to any of these Bluesky profiles, I can’t guarantee you won’t be exposed to NSFW content. Venture into furry Bluesky at your own risk, and don’t blame me for what you find! With that out of the way, here’s a random mix of Anthrocon posts from Bluesky:

New Day Cafe is an open thread!
