Many of you know our home and condo story, but I’ll refresh for those who don’t. We lived on a 20 acre farm in Sebastopol for 40 years. We grew flowers sufficient for a successful flower business, grew all our own vegetables, raised cattle, pigs, chickens, two kids, baled our hay, and heated our home with our own firewood.
Aging, we realized it was getting to be too much work, so we moved to a condo in Santa Rosa and rented out the farm to our kids at a reasonable amount, where they still live. They have embarked on a 17 day European tour, so we will be spending time there for watering, harvesting, and cat-sitting (one calm and one unruly).
The farm was already established in 1870 so as you can imagine there are maintenance issues. We have already mowed most of the unused land, which is essential for fire danger. We hope to finish that project; one should mow only when the fog is in, to preclude starting a fire with a spark from the mower.
Condo life is fine, but one issue is noise. At the farm there is often silence, broken only by bird calls, or sometimes the swish of wings as they fly nearby. We will be back and forth from farm to condo, so I hope to attend KTK, New Day, OND, and the rest of DKos where I spend much of my time.
The roof has solar panels, installed 25 years ago, and still working.
